There is a very strong element of truth in this. But remember that we do it to them also when we move to their worlds.

actually there is no element of truth to it whatsoever. Immigration is what has made this country the greatest on earth and will continue to do so. 40% of Fortune 500 Companies were created by Immigrants or their first generation Children. We are a Country of Immigrants. My ancestors came to Dallas County only 5 generations ago in 1845 -before it was a county - and there were only about 300 of you "natives" here. Other cultures stagnate while their brightest head to America. Its still happening today-name a top internet start up firm in the last decade and more than likely there is an immigrant or son of an immigrant involved. Ever heard of Apple? Have you checked on where his Daddy is from-(hint: he's one of 'em Muslims). How about Google, AT&T, Budweiser, Colgate, eBay, General Electric, IBM, McDonalds, Walt Disney, Oracle, IBM , Clorox, Boeing, 3M and Home Depot. And that's only a small segment of our culture-same analysis could be made for entertainment, scientific, educational, athletic etc etc parts of our "culture"

couch 'em wrote:Our problem is all the Yankee transplants in Dallas. Hardly any Texans here anymore. A victim of our own prosperity. Its why great civilizations fall - others immigrate and bring their backwards ideas poisoning the native prosperity and using it selfishly without loyalty. Happened to Rome, happened to Byzantium, happening to Dallas.

Same reason Dallas restaurants serve watered down mild garbage salsa at restaurants, yet you hit up La Familia in Fort Worth and it is still spicy and manly.

I don't know where to start with this ignorant xenophobic drivel but I'll start by pointing out that this is a nation of immigrants. The prosperity which you speak of was a product of the industry of immigrants. And I'm still laughing at the Rome and Byzantium references...

I'll take immigrants from quality virile places all day. Just keep out the rest like new Yorkers and Californians.

Only on ponyfans does an obvious tongue-in-cheek post on yankee transplants turn in to a serious discussion on the benefits of immigration.

However since my point, like my humor, was totally missed, SMU is at a disadvantage because FW is much more local-born, and thus more likely to support the "local" team even if they didn't attend. In Dallas the guys who graduated from Ohio St. and relocated when the corporate headquarters moved are much less likely to consider themselves a Dallasite and/or support the local team just because it is local.
