Huh. You were lucky.
I walked from one job taking orders at Dominoes behind Ozona's to DART where I took the bus to another job at the DMN at night.
Oh - and the buses stopped running at 12:15 AM. It's a six mile jog from the DMN to The Village Apartments.
I was in shape when I joined the Army.

The Village: Bluffs was torn down after I graduated. It was a decent low rent place.

I too lived in The Bluffs. I threw away a couch by the dumpster when the semester was over and in less than 10 minutes a family had dragged it out and loaded it in their truck!

I drove a 65 Mustang fastback all 4 years at SMU. Got drafted 6 months after graduation and still had the mustang when I got out of the service. Don't even remember how many miles I had on it when I finally put it to rest.

I had one of the first year Mustangs in Saturn Gold. That was a great car. Should have kept it.

I appreciate that some recognize that a few of us at SMU were from higher breeding.
My daddy was a rich oilman so I drove a nice blue Maserati back then. THe finest clothes from Nieman's and Culwell's. I got as many hot chicks as I desired. Just took a little flash of cash.
And I got some extra cash getting paid to play (best team money can buy). So I had some sweetness cash on hand all the time.
I never did laundry and I always had a portable martini set up in case I got a flat or something. I could just call Daddy and he would get one of his gophers to come fix what ever I needed. But the wait is killer so I had the martinis handy.
Classes, never went but graduated with a decent enough GPA to go on to better things.
Yes, going to SMU is easy and sweet if you got the goods.

With all that money Big Daddy had to spend, Its almost embarrassing that you ended up getting a "free ride"-or did Big Daddy just funnel all that money into SMU's slush fund to buy more players so Junior could play on National Championship. Gotta say I can't recall the Masserati in player's parking lot
