Yeah, what Copeland did - publicly - didn't exactly pan out too well, did it? So for all of those clamoring that Rick hold a press conference and order everybody to attend to torch a scarecrow June in effigy, that doesn't always work well. As long as it doesn't hurt the program competitively, I much, much, much prefer our dear leaders to handle issues quietly, behind close doors, and without engaging in public mudslinging.

I think it would be a disaster publicity wise if we fire him now-hell it probably will be a disaster in November too. We need the parties to agree that June will step aside to go back home to Hawaii and SMU gets to move on.

Could we just tell him that he breached his contract recruiting for ASU, we are letting him go at the end of the season and start contacting replacements now? Or do these contracts have statutes of limitations connected to them?

SMUer, I am no lawyer but I would think that window is closed if it was ever open and I doubt that.

"Our AD has said he's had enough, we'll I've had enough!" said Mike Cavan when interviewed after loss to North Carolina as his last game as SMU head coach. I believe he was fired with 2 games left in the 2001 season.
I think he said "illustrious" ha ha

Agreed. You want to claim a breach and terminate 20+ months after the alleged incident? Good luck with that.

I would also point out that nobody on here to my knowledge has ever seen the contract to know what might constitute a breach. And I don't know what the actual evidence is that June recruited for ASU amounts to, though I'm sure someone will refresh me.

Kind of like you and Planostang trying to argue SMUsic about June's pencil statement despite not being there while SMUsic actually was in attendance.....

Actually nothing like that. When someone with actual knowledge tells us what clause in his contract was breached I'll entertain the argument.
I'm also not sure I wasn't there for the pencil in comment, and as I have said it was I'll advised, but I still think far to big a deal is made out of it.

I'm pretty sure his contract would preclude working with/for other schools...if not, contract FAIL. I'm just wondering if " new evidence" could suddenly make the ASU incident relevant. It just sucks that someone who has behaved so badly has us by the balls in the final year of his contract...he'll lame duck himself or well lame duck him, but either way he makes millions. We don't have time for wasted seasons or missed recruiting classes.

If Doherty's original contract is an example of Orsini's negotiations, I wouldn't be surprised.

What "new" evidence is there? Are you claiming someone has been sitting on "evidence" for 20+ months? Or are you hoping someone will manufacture something?

If SMU gives him an extension, then it isn't Jones' fault.

Despite all the usual debating points about JJ, I would like to deviate from the topic of the thread and actually discuss the Memphis game.
Are we still 3 point dogs? I think we can beat these guys. Our D has a chance to step up. We saw a little of what they could do in the later half of the Rutgers game.
And our O could once again have a break out game. Memphis has kept things close because of defense and our O has done a great job against so decent defenses. I doubt Memphis' D is as good as TTU or Rutgers.
I think we win and the 3 point dog status only serves to motivate our guys.
And I apologize for interrupting the ever so popular 'Fire Jones, Keep Jones' debate.

No question this is a must win for the kids. And the coaches. I think the second half of the Rutgers game will give them confidence. It would be great to win this game handily but a win is the main thing.
Memphis' strength seems to be defense, but we should still be able to move the ball. It's time to show we can score, like we did against Rutgers. Our D now has to step up and get some turnovers. I think that if we win the turnover battle, we win the game.

Our O-Line and WRs will get murdered, and I suspect their offense is still not very good. I would expect a low scoring matchup in the 20s which I believe my preidiction was like 27-24 SMU. I cant really say that confidently because sadly it really depends how our first half goes. Do they show up? Or do they have to try to make a come behind win again. I just hope we arent embarass by the lower teams of AAC as the conference is already looking pretty terrible especially when louisville and rutgers are gone.
