And in fact that is not true as the recruits actually flock to the schools with mostly traditional uniforms-except for Oregon

Could we give to a "special projects" fund in Mustang Club...and have the MC donate the jerseys?

I hope SMU can afford to embrace tradition and New "Cool" Alternates...

But honestly, I do not see why the kids like the chrome lids. They look terrible, especially once they are actually playing the game...all the fingerprints, they look awful, and reflections are distracting.
Hate them almost as much as Boise blue field, which gives me a headache from eye focusing problem.

Kids these days love anything that's shiny, black or has random color splotches. The more garish the better.

Stallion is right. Penn State and Texas don't seem to lack good recruits and their uniforms are traditional.

First, we are NOT PSU or UT. And both of those schools have worn alternates before.

Instead, let's look at similar private schools and see what they have done:

Stanford: Black Jerseys and helmets
TCU: All sorts of alternate jerseys and helmets
Tulsa: Chrome helmets
Miami: All sorts of alternates jerseys and helmets
Wake: Alternate jerseys and helmets
Duke: Black jerseys and helmets
Rice: Not to my knowledge

So - basically we compare evenly to RICE!!!!! Congrats ponyfans, we are on par with RICE!

PS - Even the most traditional schools have alternates, most notably Notre Dame, TAMU, et al.

I am not saying we should be Oregon or Maryland - those are ridiculous. But we need to keep up with the Joneses, at least. In our own conference, we are in the minority (UH, Memphis, Tulsa, Cincy, ECU).

Right now our uniforms are neither cool nor traditional. They just suck. As to Stallion's point, let's look at the Top 10 teams as ranked by Rivals recruiting for 2014...

1. Alabama- completely traditional uniforms
2. Tennessee- Re-did home and away uniforms w/ minor tweaks this year, also unveiled "Smokey Gray" uniform
3. Ohio State- has been wearing some funky uniforms as of late
4. Georgia- Black uniforms, crazy unis vs Boise a few years ago, new weird number font this year
5. A&M- Sumlin introduced all sorts of new stuff with the different colored helmets and pants combos
6. Miami- Their uniforms have always been a little funky as of late: green helmets, weird stripes, weird numbers
7. FSU- I think they keep it pretty traditional
8. Kentucky- Haven't seen a UK game in years, they could be playing nude for all I know
9. Texas- traditional
10. Clemson- Think they keep it pretty traditional as well

Look, we're not Alabama or Texas. We don't have that tradition that is easily identifiable with 18 year olds. I'm all about the traditional blues and think it's our best look going forward; but if we want to do something weird and funky than go for it.

All of these schools get real "BCS" money........maybe if our conference dollars had been what it was hoped when the whole Big East move happened the athletic department could afford it.

Not sure on the uniform, but Rice does make small changes with their helmet. For some games, the white R is replaced with stars and stripes while this month it is colored pink.

OSU tweaked the helmet a bit, but mostly left the uniform alone. The unusual uniforms they have worn recently have mostly been throwbacks to the 40's and 50's. Miami has mixed and matched with green, orange and white for years.

I thought they were hideous and did not show well on TV.

I liked those unis.
