If we are going high school, I prefer: J.T. Curtis

David Beaty at Aggie is great recruiter, DFW roots, I believe his wife and children still live in Garland area.

He, if successful, would probably be a longer term answer than Morris. But, I would take either, no question. Rolling the dice with young studs that can recruit but no HC experience at this level, I believe is worth the risk. If failure as coach, at least they might leave you with something in the cupboard.

Yes, Kris, totally worth the risk at this point for us.

And went 16-0 again with Michael Brewer (VT qb that just knocked off Ohio St)

Make it happen.

I expect Chad Morris to be offered and to accept the position. I also expect Morris to deny interest in the position until he is offered the job. Morris has quietly sought out other jobs, most recently he pushed for the Vanderbilt opening which went to Derek Mason, and this is one he will push hard for. Morris would love the opportunity to return to Texas and the bravado that comes with being a head ball coach in Dallas. Morris would thrive in this environment and would interact well with Mustang boosters. In my opinion, Hart has plenty of time and will perform his diligence but I believe Morris is likely on top of the list already and won't be surpassed. If Clemson were to lose to Florida State in two weeks, the playoff hopes for Clemson would be over and Morris would be free to move into his new role as soon as he accepts.

This is exceptionally early and exceedingly optimistic, but if you get the right coach with Texas connections (and SEC connections can't hurt, because he has seen some low hanging fruit in other areas in the south that would improve us immediately) and gains are made quickly that not only engage and energize the school and students and alumni, but also get greater Dallas interested, you start to put pressure on the AAC. You also put pressure on the Big 12. Big time football in Dallas equates to big money....real big money. The proximity of SMU to Love field means easy travel for fans from all teams. Getting an actual foot into a huge metropolitan market (no offense to TCU, but they don't sell outside of Ft. Worth) draws advertising money and more potential games in Jerry World to bring in even more money and an increased TV deal. Basically, with growth and success in the AAC comes an invite to a bigger P5 conference. So make that big splash and investment now . Get the student section packed immediately (find a way to pressure the fraternities into requiring attendance at games is a good way to start). Use those advertising tie-ins with basketball (allow one program to help grow the other and vice versa, because big time athletes like hanging out with other big timers...and hot chicks) to expand the brand (could even use the momentum to get enough funding to bring mens track and field back...which would directly benefit football). So, let's get going because without a plan there is no way to success.

I have no problem with a coach coming here with the idea of using this job a stepping stone. In order for that strategy to work, he would have to bust his arse, prove himself, and make us relevant. Barely qualifying for a lower bowl won't do it. It will take at least a conference championship or two.

I would love to know who put that comment at the bottom of that article. If you can win at Boise and Logan, UT then you can win at SMU.

The guy that wrote the football scoop article seems to have a pretty good grasp on the situation. Seems that Chad Morris is not afraid of coaching at a private school that cares about academics. This seems like this would be a great fit.

Another thought:

I am excited to see how optimistic the media has been about the opening. They make it sound like a very coveted job.
