I was wondering the same thing. It's In the press release...

"DeChambeau is SMU's first individual NCAA champion in any sport since women's swimmer Flavia Rigamonti won the 1,650-meter freestyle national title in 2005."

Really awesome. Impressive that he could make it happen with the unorthodox clubs. As the golf channel said, he believed it would work for him and it did. So glad for him.
