Depending on how they progress freshman can have that big of an impact along with that DT from South Carolina. Many of us as Stallion predicted years before this happen saw the train wreck coming. But these kids do work hard and that is what we have going for us not talent.

I think more of the point he was making was that some of those DITRs were actually diamonds that have just been under utilized

A few may have been but I think he still thinks we recruited fine and is just blaming everything on the S&C coach even though it was the same S&C coach that was here when the team went to bowl games. The team started to go down when the last of the PB recruits graduated as most saw. Anyway, the seem to be a bunch of hard working kids and that sometimes can make up a bit for the talent decencies.

On another note regarding big time recruits. I think one of the biggest impact players (if not possibly the biggest) that Coach Morris has brought in will be the DT from South Carolina. If he starts and dominates anything is possible.

That's what I was thinking but did not want to say it...was his name Stavion Lowe or something like that? Not sure if he ever really saw the field for us

that LSU thing is so overblown. He wasn't an LSU transfer-he lasted less than a year at LSU then was 3 years away from the SEC-2 years at JUCO and one year completely absent from football

Transfers have definitely been hits and misses. Traylon Shead, 4* UT, was also a big bust. But Shawnbrey McNeal and Garret Gilbert were life savers for the program. Deon Green is a graduate transfer who battled back from injuries and made some limited time last season for SC. Even if he isn't a star starter at his size (6-4 289) he will add much needed depth to the line which helps. It will be interesting to see how he compares in practice notes before the season starts. Schools like NTSU should not get 245 yards against us.

McNeal was an obvious talent who had some personal issues and wanted to come home. He wasn't encouraged to leave. Shead had athleticism, but had fumble problems. He really got injured and that had more to do with him not making an impact than anything else. GG had the talent to at least be considered for a starting role at UT.

I think there is a difference between a guy like Green, who at least saw some PT, versus Lowe or the OT who transferred from UT and LSU and were never going to see any PT there and were more than likely "encouraged" to leave.

Worst case, this really helps us out with Depth, especially with Reed leaving the program after having a promising spring. Gentry, Minor, Hollie, Green, and probably Wood is a solid 5 for those tackle slots. Maybe this acquisition keeps Wood on the outside, although I think Lawler had a better spring than he did.

Why did reed leave the program

I dunno why Reed left. I thought he was a real surprise in the spring, then all of a sudden he didn't play in the spring game and I don't think he was on the sidelines, and then he was gone.

If the SC guy starts right way, that might not be a good sign. He's had multiple knee injuries and would only have a month to learn the system -- but I think he will provide solid depth at a position of need if he's relatively healthy

Who was that NT transfer we had later in the PB years?

If he is healthy and has comeback from those knee injuries it is a good sign. Remember Clemson and SC play each other every year so Morris knows how good this young man is because he has played against him.

You thinking of Torlan Pittman?

Frazier, I think, was before Pitt. He was a JUCO

Not sure if we took too many transfers or JUCOs prior to that.
