That's what great recruiters do-there are going to be great QB transfers available-an open starting spot at SMU in 2017 under a great Offensive coach like Morris is going to be an attractive option. Personally, I can't believe that Moore would turn that down since he would have a great shot at starting in 2017. Let's see if Morris can get it done. But when you are talking only 1-2 de-commitments-its definitely doable. It could be a guy who has already decided to transfer, it could be a guy who decides to transfer after failing to win a starting job after his team's spring practice-heck it could even be a guy who fails to win starting job in fall practice as long as he transfers before start of school in 2016

Arkansas will have a minimum of 2 transfer out after this spring. They have too many good ones.

If we lose Moore there would still be an opportunity to pick up a Division 1A transfer who could sit in 2016 and be ready to go after Matt Davis graduates. So again if you lose a recruit go get some one better just like we did with Carmouche who was more highly recruited than Dae Williams. Ace in the Hole recruiting is what it is all about when you are down to 1-2 spots.
Only problem with your Carmouche argument is that he was highly recruited at LB. He came to SMU because they promised him a chance to play RB, according to EJ.

If it's Carmouche the RB vs. Williams the RB, Williams has the much better resume. Carmouche didn't even play offense his senior year.

same thing with Williams. SMU recruited Williams as a LB not RB. He only made about 2 tackles this year on Defense. He never fit as a RB in our offense so that is a push. Both were looking to change positions something we've all known for quite awhile

Which leads us to the million dollar question! If Williams 'never fit as a RB in our offense', what is the point of recruiting Carmouche at that position?

Very similar size 6'/6'1 - 220ish. Williams with 1700 yards & 19 TD's and now a Louisville RB commit, while Carmouche didn't even play RB, and apparently his only other RB offer was Illinois.

Hint: the only answer that makes any sense, is that Morris fully expects him to give up his RB aspirations, and flip back to the defensive side of the ball.

Or, you could argue, that Morris is trying to get better football players and athletes on the team, and regardless of what position they might end up at, Carmouche is considered a better prospect strictly by number of offers...

Norvell is a a highly regarded offensive coordinator in his own right and he could start in 2016 for Memphis and 2017 at the latest. And Norvell is just as dynamic a recruiter as Morris. With the coaching changes in the AAC there not many sub par recruiters anymore.

Haven't seen anything definitive on Moore visiting Memphis this weekend so maybe cooler heads prevailed.

Going back to Moore (who I really hope plays for us), I think those that want to criticize Morris for his "no visits' position don't understand game theory at all.

1) If recruiting was about 1 player/year, bending the rules for Moore would be the right move.
2) But, recruiting means finding the 25 best recruits possible EVERY YEAR.

To achieve long term recruiting success, Morris has (reasonably) adopted a strategy based upon a two-way commitment between the school and the player. If Morris breaks the current recruiting class' trust by kowtowing to Moore, he risks his ability to recruit on the same terms next season. Next year, players will know that they can commit and shop without consequence.

Speaking of Trust: Even though Carmouche and Lewis are more highly regarded prospects than some of our commits, Morris didn't try to push any commits out the door to make room for them.

Why his plan works:
- 1 week from NSD, he doesn't have to worry about replacing 4-5 guys who flipped on him by raiding CUSA Schools at the last minute.
- the players (and their parents) know that Morris isn't going to pull a scholarship b/c he convinces a "better" player to flip to our program at the last minute.

Unlike the past when we struggled to fill our class: the pay sites will tell you that we have passed on some good players (who wanted to come to SMU) because we told them that we were full at their position.

Still no confirmation that he's in Memphis this weekend.

IIRC there was a mutual agreement between Morris and Moore. If Moore committed to us then Morris would not recruit other players specifically for the QB position. Obviously, you have to question a players ethics if at the last minute he starts looking around and waffles on his part of the agreement.

Said he was visiting Wednesday and started following our QB grad assistant yesterday.
Where did he say it?

Hold on a second Red did you say ethics? Isn't that in itself an oxymoron

Only when you are referring to politicians.
