Kid now wants to leave, either to follow HC that signed him, or simply to go to another school.
I am assuming virtually every school will release him of his obligation.
Schools can, but not all will. Especially if the kid decides to go to a rival and/or another school in the same conference.

What if kid doesn’t say he’s going to a rival, he doesn’t say where he is going at all, only that he signed with school based on promise that school’s HC made to him less than 3 weeks ago.

I would imagine assuming the school was able to get the replacement in. They would ask the player to meet with the new coach and if it doesn’t work out then release him.

That’s what I think as well. I don’t think any school wants to have the reputation of forcing a kid to stay when the HC bolts literally days or a few weeks after signing date.
Wonder how that dynamic factors in to all of this.

The reply will be ΓÇ£you signed with the school, not the coachΓÇ¥. They can change. Just be prepared for first year redshirt.

I believe under the new rules this year if a coach gets fired or bolts between the early signing date and the late signing date they can get a release without having to sit out. Also the incoming coach might not want some of the players that signed early from the previous staff and can release them.

They've always been able to formally ask for a release but its not mandatory. You see this a lot in College Basketball because so many recruits sign early and then Coach is fired or leaves. If recruit isn't released its binding for one year. He could resign with any school one year later if not released. I haven't heard of any new automatic release if Coach leaves-but this is uncharted waters

It’s not automatic, just if the kid wants to leave or if the new coach does not want the kid. Pretty fair deal for both sides.

No definitely binding on the school. A Coach can not deny admission to a recruit who signs a letter of intent-its binding for 1 year

Riley already out at Nebraska.
Is Sumlin-to-Arizona State a done deal?

Miss St Coach Dan Mullin going to Florida. Tennessee hiring Ohio State DC, Greg Shiano.

If that is the case then that is probably why so many schools are quickly hiring coaches now after firing a coach so that coach can see if he wants to pull offers before early signing day. That way he won’t have to run the player off.

I doubt it's a done deal. I would expect ASU to go after Norvell. Former ASU OC. Well liked by the fans. This also leaves Phil Bennett out of a job.
