Wyoming offered; La Tech offered. We had "interest," as far as I could tell. Nobody has shown me where he got an offer from SMU so the salesmanship issue may be moot. Now if you want to chalk that up to talent evaluation, then that is another matter. We will only know if Bennett screwed that up if Danna lights the world on fire.

Bennett' staff did, by all accounts, a fabulous salesmanship job coming off a three win season in his first year. Now, what he has done with that is an another matter. What he can sell now after 3-0-3-5 win seasons is also another matter.

At this point, I don't give a flip about Danna. Let's see if this kid amounts to anything. Correct me if I am wrong, but of all the juco QB's we were in on two years ago, didn't Romo have more wins as a starter than any of them (and that was five)? We wrung our hands over losing Dane King to Baylor and he only started half a season and left the team.

The ability to recruit is never about one kid.

Come on gang, why question stallion's expertise and sources? He is the authority on all recruiting topics.

I'm told we never offered. To be fair, maybe he said he was going elsewhere and we therefore chose not to. But I believe a formal offer never was extended.

Maybe I'm wrong, maybe I'm right -- at this point, it doesn't matter. With so many contradictory reports out there, the only folks who know for sure are Danna himself and our coaches.

I would also suggest that when you look at Willis, the incoming QB, and the success of Romo vs Eckert, the coaches are looking for more of a dual-threat QB than just a pocket passer. Stallion, we will see who we end up with, but I suspect that the dual threat guys are higher up on our radar (and with our o-line the last 10 years you understand why ;). That is why we are giving other QBs more attention than Danno or Haskell.

That said, I wouldn't be surprised if we did actually offer. I think he wanted to come here, but we wouldn't guarantee he would come in as the starter. That is why all of his quotes indicate that he liked SMU. If we had guaranteed him the starting spot, he would have come here. But like it or not, we are most likely bringing in two JUCO QBs. So they are going to have to come in and compete.

I would if I chose to go to Ruston.

I don't know...I visited Ruston for a rugby match and almost never came back. Something about an entire sorority pledge class dancing to "stroke it" on stage in the one bar in Ruston just says Home to me!

LaTech has a much better recent history in developing good quarterbacks than does SMU. Maybe it came down to self interest.

I would rather think it was the dancing sorority girls. It's a better visual.

Stallion, you have still not answered my question.
<crickets chirping>

What would you have said to Danna that would have out-recruited LT?

And Pony Fan, to answer your question,
Why are you asking this guy anything about how to sell the program? He has nothing positive to say.

I would like him to sell me like he would want to out-sell LT. He is supposedly a lawyer...a litigator, obviously by his almost pathological need to be right. I guess I want to know whether all he cares about is being right, or whether he cares enough to formulate what he would say to this guy and by God, say it. He says we were outrecruited. Perhaps we were. Perhaps we got the pants beaten off of us. Perhaps not. How do I know? I don't have a subscription to Rivals.

Because when I see the words "out-recruited", try as I might, I can not figure out what he really means other than xfer hours, etc., and nothing anybody has put forth suggests that this was the problem. It might have been, but there again, I dunno, because I don't have a subscription to Rivals. Double  .

 Did Stallion or anybody ever think, maybe the dude just likes LT more than SMU? <again, crickets chirping>

 Naw, couldn't have been that, could it?

Stallion,

For what its worth, you clearly have more credibility than the rest of the sunshiners and excuse makers who have their heads in the sand.

Thee sunshiners classic rebuttal is to throw out names like Ramon Flanigan, bill Kiley, Chris Bordano, Larry Allen, Jerry Rice, etc., etc. as players that weren't highly recruited out of HS. Then they spout off about how it doesn't matter how the class grades out- it is the results five years in the futre that counts. The problem with that thought process is that 5 years later we usually have a total of about only 10 wins. Why bother arguing with them. They have put up with this crap for the past 20 years, and they still don't get what your saying about the model.

Give me the highly recruited everytime.
