Just watched the channel 5 interview with JJ from this past Sunday. He was sitting with Dennis McKnight, our new O Line coach, and it showed them looking at a tape (couldn't see the actual footage, just their faces). They both said "How can this guy still be available. Get him in here this weekend and offer him a scholarship."

I wonder if they were talking about Huahulu? I suspect it was either him or Emshoff, since he was watching the tape with McKnight.

Yes he wrestles too....

Evan won his Heavyweight Class League match last night against St. John Bosco with a pin in the second round.

He'll be grappling for the Trinity League Heavyweight Championship this Friday against five other HW's - five matches away from the "belt" - some prayers from his new Mustang family couldn't hurt!

YES HE WRESTLES TOO!!!!

Congrats Evan!!!!!

GO MUSTANGS!!!!!!!!!

:D :D :D

Welcome to PonyFans, UncleOfEvan! Congrats on your nephew's big win, and on his choice of SMU.

BigHoss - couldn't have been Huahulu. They were in contact with him when he was at Hawaii, right? I highly doubt his availability was a surprise.

Ah, I didn't know that. Good catch. I wonder if it was Emshoff or another OL that is still TBD?

Anyway, congrats to Evan on his wrestling win. And welcome to his uncle. Great to see his family showing up on the board, and hope to see you guys at Ford come game days this fall.

Thanks for the welcomes everyone. I am so excited about Evan's prospects with the Mustangs - well - I can't even describe the feelings I am having right now. All I can think is - STAY HUMBLE! I live here in Austin and Evan's mom and dad are going to be making the move to Texas very soon as well. We all look forward to meeting many of you soon!

Evan actually was not "on the radar" recruiting-wise until Coach Jones found Evan's tape (DVD) in his briefcase after getting to SMU. He had not viewed the DVD until just a short time ago. That's when the interest in Evan began. At SMU, not in Hawaii. Evan attends Servite High School, an all boy's Catholic college prep school in Anaheim, California. My sister (his mom) and Evan's dad live in Orange, California.

Evan is one of the nicest kids you'll ever meet. That is - unless you are lining up opposite him on the gridiron or meeting him in a wrestling match. He describes himself as a "warrior" on the football field and on the wrestling mat. And one of his primary goals in life? To work with kids. Kids just love him. He has done lots of volunteering at kid's football camps over the years.

Thanks again everyone!

Actually the first time we heard from the coaching staff was 1/22/08. A very welcome phone call it was as Evan has wanted to play for Coach Jones since he was a little boy.

Can someone please direct me to the area on PonyFan.com that has the recruit interviews? Thanks :D

Welcome to both UncleofEvan and ProudMama! We are thrilled to be getting your son on the hilltop. Expecting to see him blowing up the pockets next year at Ford.

Just curious, how did he become such a fan of Coach Jones?

Welcome to the Mustangs!

Evan has had dreams of playing at Hawaii for Coach Jones as he is of Polynesian decent and has extended family in Hawaii. His blood line is half Tongan and half Irish - quite a combination!

Wow that's great!!! Tell your "across the hall" neighbor that we send a big "CREDO" his way and hopefully he and Evan can meet up when Evan arrives.

There are lots of OC kids. Most come from Newport, Corona del Mar, Irvine, Laguna Beach/Hills/Niguel, Mission Viejo, Yorba Linda/Anaheim Hills, San Juan Cap and San Clemente. Also lots of kids from LA, San Diego and Nor Cal.
