Memphis game thread

Memphis definitely did not run us off the floor. We hung with them for the majority of the game and had it not been for the turnovers...well...things might have been different. Memphis did what it takes to win...but I thought I was going to see something spectacular by them...not so much. The crowd was great and louder than it appeared on TV (I watched the replay). Memphis brought a lot of people but I would say the majority were pro-Pony. They never got that stupid M-E-M-P-H-I-S chant going...

from the DMN......
"I thought SMU did a great job of keeping the game to where they had a chance, and I think that's what [SMU coach] Matt [Doherty] was doing," Memphis coach John Calipari said. "Every game we play is someone's Super Bowl. It's incredible. This is the first building that wasn't totally sold out with people hanging from the rafters throwing stuff."
Proof that we have the most disinterested alumni/fans in C-USA. It's sad, but I really don't blame anyone who doesn't show up.

Did you not read all of that sentence? I think it was a compliment towards SMU for not throwing stuff (a la UAB).

read the whole article. He WAS being complimentary of our fans....in no way do I condone throwing things, but IMO if the opposing coach is complimenting your fans, that's not a good thing. And the fact that this was the first building they have played in that wasn't sold out is not a good thing either.

Why is an opposing coach complimenting the fans a bad thing? We can create a home atmosphere and the opposing coach still compliment it. We just don't need to throw things on the court, yell obscenities, and be generally unsportsmanlike. Those things shouldn't be what we look for from the crowd.
I suppose you can take an insult away from that comment or a compliment depending on what part of the sentence you put emphasis on. Personally, I put emphasis on the "hanging from the rafters throwing stuff," while you put emphasis on "this is the first building that wasn't totally sold out with people". Regardless, we need Moody at least that full for every game. Moody is amazing when it gets a large crowd.
