I said months ago that all this posturing was pointless, that you cant force a player to come who doesnt want to. Get the picture now? Denying his release just delayed the inevitable, all they had to do was wait.

So do you agree that the LOI is really useless as far as the school is concerned? And what picture exactly are you wanting everyone to get? I was trying to be civil.

If Dubois is playing D1 basketball anywhere this fall, I want to know what the hell is the point of a NLI? If all a recruit has to do is not send in his transcript, then I see a slippery slope here. I would expect AAU coaches around the country to advise a kid to sign a NLI at the signing date, but then the coach will continue to shop his player around to a "better" school. If he finds a taker, then he'll advise his player to not send in his transcript, thus releasing the kid of his original commitment and allowing him to join the "better" school. I love the professional side of amateur athletics.

Or at any school that is NOT a member of the National Letter of Intent program...assuming his admission was not denied by SMU.

But all indications are that his admission WAS denied by SMU, and the NLI has this to say about that:

Admissions Requirement. This NLI shall be declared null and void if the institution named in this document notifies me in writing that I have been denied admission or, by the opening day of classes in the fall 2008 has failed to provide me with written notice of admission, provided I have submitted a complete admission application.

The way it's worded...if our admissions office tells him absolutely nothing, the fault is on him. If our admissions office sends him a letter of denial, the NLI is null and void (but the lawyers on this board might want to correct me on that).

I would bet that he goes juco (and yes, he would lose a year of eligibility, but it wouldn't be a total loss because he was playing somewhere) if he is going to lose a year of eligibility already. If he isn't going to lose a year of eligibility, I think he'll go prep.
