Re: BARTEL IS GONE

Is there method in Bennett's "madness"? When he makes the postgame comment that he's starting Phillips next week and giving him 5 games to get ready for next year, and he's going to sign a JC QB...had he already made up his mind that Bartel and/or Wallis was done here at SMU?
I've witnessed only 2 games and can clearly see what those closer to the program are saying about the coaching and our schemes. I agree we either need a new OC or they need to open up the playbook. I guess we can expect KK off right tackle about 20 times Saturday, and Phillips rolling left otherwise. Actually that might work out a whole lot better than Bartel throwing it up for grabs along the sideline, which is all I've seen in the passing game this year. I was really disappointed to see UTEP put 10 in the box on that crucial 3rd and 4 as we were driving for what would have been a game winning FG, only to see us run the exact play everyone knew was coming. Do our coaches and QB's not understand the concept of changing the play at the line of scrimmage when it's obvious what you have called is not going to succeed? As I waited for Bartel to audible into a quick slant that may well have produced a game winning TD against that defense, I knew deep down what was coming.
I'm trying to remind myself that neither Bartel or Wallis got much attention as I-A QB prospects, so if this is all about freeing up a scholarship because Bennett does think he can bring in a JC kid who can play right away and produce, I'm willing to keep an open mind. I guess I will judge the "state of the program" by how the team responds at Tulsa. Tulsa has shown considerable improvement following their coaching change. I'd like to think we have enough talent to at least compete. If we lose at Tulsa by 30-40 pts, then I have serious questions about this program and whether this coaching staff has lost control of this team.
