Re: Problems for Torlan Pittman
the people who get JOY and SATISFACTION from posting the legal problems of student althletes on these boards are ASSHOLES-and you know who you are. Its one thing to post information that is news and affects an athletic program-that's fair game-its also fair game to raise questions about a program that has drop-outs and players involved in legal incidents-its quite another to take great satisfaction in such event to make yourself or your school look better. If my calculations are right this is at least the 6th SMU player or VERY prominent alumni to be accused of sexual assault over the last 10 or so years. And if you believe that no SMU Athlete ever gets a DWI or a drug citation just because it isn't reported in the Dallas paper then you are also an idiot. Truth is not just what happens to make it to the newspaper. And I personally know some of you would cover up that type of information if it involved an SMU player. Its called hypocrisy

well Cadi this seems pretty darn close to doing just that...
implying "well the victim probably deserved it" crap
i guess we'll just have to seeponyinNC wrote:these "someone drugged me" cases when a girl was simply too drunk to make good decisions are a crock of you know what.
No, that position indicates that no sexual assault occurred (she consented, and only cried rape when she felt buyer's remorse), not that one was deserved.

I take joy & satisfaction seeing you attempt to defend the undefendable!
& now implying that SMU is any where near in the same category arrest or legal
problems-wise as the Texas Longhorns....reality is what it is... no matter what kind
of degree you have Stallion!
If my calculations are right this is at least the 6th SMU player or
VERY prominent alumni to be accused of sexual assault over the last 10 or so years.
Yeah nice qualifer...equate alumni to players on scholarship...
that crap doesn't wash....i suppose in your warped mind punching some
gay stalker at a frat party is the same as the recent armed robbery at
a McDonalds by a Texas Longhorn player....not an alum a UT player!
"Truth is not just what happens to make it to the newspaper"
and thats just as true about your Horns you rush to defend "no matter what".
your little theory works both ways
if all SMU infractions "dont make the paper"
then neither do all the Horn's infractions
so if only some infractions are making the headlines
then good grief it looks even worse for your Horns!

Four things. (1) If convicted, this young man has a tough life ahead of him - sex offender tag and football should be the last thing he is concerned about; (2) he is innocent until proven guilty; (3) let the justice system take its course; (4) JJ will take such actions as he deems appropriate.

you have been posting all kinds of stories about UT players AFTER they have been kicked off the team. In fact, almost all serious incidents at Texas have resulted in the their explusion from the university. There is only one SMU alumni I am talking about anyway. The rest were SMU atudent athletes.

Update on the case from The Huntsville Item:
By Matthew Jackson
Staff Reporter
Two men, one a former Sam Houston State University baseball player, were arrested Monday in connection with the sexual assault of a woman at a Huntsville apartment complex last fall.
Sean Curtis Weatherford and Torlan Rashad Pittman, both 20, were arrested by two separate agencies Monday after Huntsville police obtained warrants for both men for aggravated sexual assault.
The initial offense occurred on Sept. 27, 2009.
According to Detective Eric Scott of the HPD, the victim, who has not been identified, claimed to have been sexually assaulted after an evening of partying with both men at Huntsville nightclubs and bars.
Scott said both men have previously been interviewed and admitted to having sex with the victim, but said it had been consensual.
The piece of evidence that led to warrants for both men was a drug test that confirmed the victim had been administered prescription medication without her knowledge.
Evidence indicates that a prescription drug had been introduced to her system without her knowledge," Scott said. "During the course of my interviews, both admitted having sex with her, but through the investigation evidence indicated that she was unable to consent to it."
The drug test led Scott to secure warrants for both men on Friday.
Weatherford, a former All-Southland Conference pitcher for SHSU, was taken into custody in Bryan at approximately 1 p.m. Monday.
Pittman, a defensive lineman and student at Southern Methodist University, was apprehended by SMU police shortly before noon.
Scott said the initial assault allegedly took place at Weatherford’s Huntsville apartment.
Weatherford no longer resides in Huntsville and no longer attends SHSU.
Weatherford is currently in the Walker County Jail on a $100,000 bond.
Pittman is still in custody in the Dallas area and is scheduled to be transferred to Walker County sometime this week.
Bond has not been set in his case.
Scott said the offense was upgraded to aggravated sexual assault, a first degree felony, because the offense involved two men assaulting a single woman without her consent.

Re: Problems for Torlan Pittman
It looks like the alleged incident took place during a bye week? Why is this getting reported now if the event took place so long ago? Was the investigation going on this long or did this just now get filed?
Lots of questions here........I hope all involved are ok, but we should presume innocence until proven guilty.

Almost all Texas Longhorn players criminal actions that I have mentioned took place while they were Texas Longhorns....in case you haven't noticed there is a pattern...this pattern is even discussed in Austin newspapers...kind of like "what the hell is going on with all this thuggery"....for example there were 6 Texas Longhorns arrested between June 2007 and Septemeber 2007...just in the last three months the Texas Longhorns have had three players depart following arrests since November 2009 ..you attempting to equate the seriousness and numbers of the Texas Longhorns vs. SMU borders on lunacy.....but I know you will stop at nothing to defend others while taking joy in pointing out any possible negatives about SMU.

If they prove that she was unable to consent they are gone. A question would be suppose you consent when you are drunk and can't remember consenting. This is true a sad story for all sides.

That is/was my whole point. i would never say anyone deserved to be sexually assaulted...c'mon IPP, we all have wives, sisters, daughters, mothers that we would protect to the death.

Re: Problems for Torlan Pittman
It states a prescription drug was introduced......does it matter on the type of prescription drug? What if we are talking about Claritin? Guess I am just wondering if the type of drug matters and the drugs ability to influence decision making, giving consent, etc...?
Also, how long does it take to turn around a drug test? Sept 27th until making an arrest now seems like a long period of time to me.

If she's lying then she's not a victim.
