And before you ask, we have called the big 10 as well....better response but a big no as well...

We also talked to ND about setting something up and that got further than both the big 10 and sec but it too was a no...

I think we have a chance at AQ status but it might not be until conference go to 14-16 range...we have a lot of assets...and need to have dallas realize the benefits of having a team here, from an economic standpoint esp.

Maybe we're just waiting for a letter back from C-USA outlining conference departure procedures before we make anything public :D

Gerald Turner sticking himself and the university out like this unless it was either 1. a done deal and this is just prep work, or 2. it's a real possibility of happening and we are trying a last desperate push to get in, or 3. We have no chance, but another conference wants us and this is prep work for that conference (BE, PAC, who knows)

Turner for all his anti-athletics faults, is NOT one to make SMU look like a fool.

Why not? This is a zero loss game for Orsini and Turner. SMU gets a huge PR Boost and there are no repercussions if it doesn't happen. Even if the Big XII goes another direction people will think about SMU going forward as a possible addition to their conference. We haven't burned any bridges. This is actually a great strategy. Look at all the press SMU has received. What did it cost? A few cell phone minutes. Good for Turner and Orsini no matter what happens.

I can answer the first question, yes I am out of my damned mind, but the second suddenly doesn't seem quite so absurd. It gives the SEC everything it wants: even divisions, DFW TV coverage, two major inroads to Texas recruiting. It gives us exposure in LA (which we recruit heavily and with mixed results), plus a major stage to improve our national efforts, particularly out east. When teams like Alabama or LSU come to play, if an expanded Ford can't accommodate we can always move to Jerry World (or even back to the Cotton Bowl if the city of Dallas would get on board). We can certainly hang with Miss St., Vandy and some of the other schools, and we get a much more stable situation for us. It is a pipe dream, I know, but something to think about.

Wont work. We don't have an RV parking lot. Yeah. Haha. But it is serious for SEC. I've read several books about their FB culture and it's like NASCAR for those fans. Show up wed for the games.

Knock down Baird's - we'll earn back what we paid for it in ticket sales in no time.

You're not kidding. My sister just graduated from UA and I was in Tuscaloosa last year for the Iron Bowl. Folks practically had to stay in Mississippi to get to the game. Tell me we wouldn't like to be a part of something like that? The RV's could park in front of the houses in HP. It would be a blue-blood, redneck hoedown!

This is the time to be a salesman. If you think SMU is at a point where we can sit on its reputation from 30-70 years ago and have a major conference ask them to become a member then you are not being realistic. Why not be proactive, albeit behind the scenes, and let the major players know want you want and what you have to offer and what you are willing to bring and contribute to the conference! Find out what they want and then tell them what you are willing to do. Or stay where you are if not willing to pay the price. Or maybe form a conference with others who are like you....NT, UTEP, Tulane, Rice, LATech, Ark State, etc. How bad do you want it?
