i don't think big12 wants TCU.

They don't. Maybe in a few years when another shake up occurs. But not in immediate future.

Best part would be to see SMU in the Orange Bowl someday.

Better location, academics, facilities, alumni, women, ect....

Why open the door to a team that will eventually put you in your place....

exactly. there is no upside for tcu to have SMU in same conference, other than the very overrated 'traveling partner' aspect which i doubt they care about.

we will still play each other regardless (and that IS good for them despite what they might say and is certainly good for us) and that's about all out of us they want. to put us on equal footing conference-wise after they've done all the work is BAD for tcu. UH is much less threatening.

the question will be whether or not tcu has the stroke to blackball us from BE, and even that has a risk. if they say to the BE "we're not coming if you add SMU" and that requires a firm commitment from them to stick with their BE decision (which I think it would), then their chance at the Big XII (which i think is very high for them) goes out the window and guess who might (not likely, but might) be there to take that place? none of this SMU talk is good for the polywogs. their best hope is to either hope they get a Big XII invitation, likelihood strenghtened if Mizzou bails, or that the BE opts not to include SMU for its own reasons and CUSA is depleted by losing UH, ECU, UCF or whoever else.

+1

I would be thrilled if TCU goes UT-X and SMU takes their spot in BE...

no, i'd rather like to be in a conference with them. it would totally chap their fans [Gary Patterson]s after years of trying to get away from us, and would make that game even more meaningful on a rivalry level.

if we were in the BE on our own, we'd be on an island in local media, but w/ TCU in the mix, there would be some local attention on the conference.

So UT should never do anything that benefits them?

UT only does things that benefit UT. I'm fine with most of it. They deserve every penny they get from the LHN. They have the fans, they have the wins, they deserve it. But if you are going to be in a conference, help that conference by being a team player. If not, go independent.

The funny thing is, is that they have always had all the money. And with all that money and power they only have one Championship in 40 years. And without one recruit, Vince Young, it prolly doesn't happen. This is why I believe aTm fans win right now. Yes they won't win a Championship anytime soon, but their fans get to see amazing teams come in to Kyle Field. LSU, Auburn, Georgia....while UT continues to play Kansas, Iowa, Tech.

As a fan, I want a state and/or regional conference alignment. If that means not playing for a National Championship or taking less tv money fine. We don't need the rest of the country to let us know how good our football teams and its players are! It will still be on tv in this area so who cares about somebody in Oregon not seeing us play. Do we really need to be in a bcs conference to satisy our "egos" ? Is Baylor and TT more highly-regarded than TCU? NOOOOOO. If the SEC wants to recruit massive kids with no academic skills to win football games then let them go ahead. Let's get back to the glory days and who cares about the rest!!

Ummm getting to those glory days requires us to "care about the rest."

from kate:

"The report floats the idea that SMU would serve as a travel partner for TCU, which is scheduled to join the Big East next season but has also been speculated on as a potential Big 12 target. I'm not sure that I see TCU being so willing to bring rival SMU along. TCU athletic director Chris Del Conte himself told me a couple of weeks ago that he didn't believe regionalism would bring stability to conferences, needing to grow footprints instead."
