And Leach has never been to a BCS game even though he WAS in a BCS conference.
See how easy it is to pick absolutely incomparable coaching records and try to make a bogus comparison? What a waste of time.

Unbelievable. Bye.

I hope you JJ lovers saw today how bad our talent was, bad recruiting, bad offense, we need to let JJ ride off in the sunset back to Hawaii.
Look, we are committed to football, we have a blank check..but to waste it on June Jones is a mistake....Get someone that has some fire.
The curtains have been pulled back...after all that money, we have marginal talent and a coach with no fire.
Wake up pony fans, time to move on. We have been exposed as the frauds we are.....
We spend all this money, lets do something with it.

But the point is, he didn't get there. And it was actually harder for Jones to get to one as a coach at a school in a non-AQ conference. In roughly the same amount of time coaching at the same school, he got there, and Leach did not. That is a fact, not a guess as to what Leach MIGHT have done had he still been there.

Whats your fascination with leach? There are other good coaches.

I'm not saying JJ is better than Leach, I just don't understand why you think Leach is better than JJ. Especially given that no school is rushing out there now to give the guy a job.

Of course he won't stay here. He can't live forever....or CAN he?
Yeah, the guy's going to leave sometime. Big deal. Why should we plan on replacing him right now when he's given us no indication that he is leaving after this season, and since he is about to take us to our 3rd bowl game in a row after having not been to one in nearly 25 years? I just don't get the logic behind your argument.

+1. I just don't think JJ works in a BCS conference. Thats it, thats not insane or crazy
What evidence do you base that comment on?

Paul Johnson picked Georgia Tech because that was the only BCS school to give him an offer and he wanted to test his offense in a BCS conference. Anyone see the GT/Clemson game last night. JJ is by all reports a great coach. JJ showed the run n' shoot can work in the NFL which is more difficult than BCS. Ask Steve Spurrior how his offense worked at the next level?

BanjoBongo,
I promise, you do not want Mike Leach. Living out here in Tech land I would like to think I have a pretty good grasp of the Leach situation, yes he won, yes he raised alot of money for Tech football, but the guy is/was not liked by hardly anyone. He would not glad hand with the Techsters alumni, he hated being around people. He was not well liked inside the athletic department, he was not well liked by hardly anyone at Tech. Tech had been looking to get rid of him for sometime, but like so many other schools they were blinded by the dollars he raised. He might be a brilliant football mind but he rubbed just about everyone the wrong way. Every year his agent was looking for a better coaching opportunity, no one would hire him. Some schools claim they never contacted or interviewed him, when Leach said they did contact him. Now with the Tech lawsuit it might be awhile before anyone other than High Schools want him to coach. JJ has his little idiosyncrasies, but I will gladly take him over Mike Leach.

BanjoBongo wrote:Leach has wins and has been succesful in a BCS conference. JJ can never say that. I look at Utah right now and I reference my agruement against JJ when we go into an AQ conference. Anyone remember how great Kyle Whittingham was in the MWC? Everyone said he's one of the top coaches in the country and Utah will do just great in the PAC 12 this year. Whats there conference record? 1-4! The only reason why they've won one game in the PAC is cause Oregon State is walk on program. Just because JJ has revived two programs doesn't mean he'll take us to the top when he gets out of his niche coaching job. He's good at what he does but we need to move forward and prepare ourselves for when he leaves for UCLA or something back on the west coast. It doesn't have to be Leach, we gonna be left holding the bag when JJ leaves us.
Yes Leach won at Tech, but he was never going to go to a BCS bowl or win the Big 12 with the way he completely disregards the defense, In ten years at Tech he proved that. Leach will not come cheap, he battled Tech just about every year on salary. He always felt he was not paid enough.
One of Techs more prominent supporters is a very good friend of mine and he thought Tech should have fired Leach a long time ago. He knew Tech was never going to be a 10 win team every year under leach. That is no secret to anyone.
How do we "prepare" when JJ leaves?

JJ is the best coach we've had since DP. I don't think anyone can argue against that. I think he is VERY good, and I'm very grateful we have him, and I don't think it's wise to even be talking about firing him (pretty absurd actually). HOWEVER, you have to remember there's a reason he's not - nor has he ever - coached a BCS school or stayed in the pros very long. Now, that may be his CHOICE but I think some of us (me included) have put him up on an unfair pedestal. I support him and am very excited about the future of this program .... AND I REALLY hate the lack of fire the last 2 games (both teams are good, especially USM, but I would have been absolutely embarrassed with how we played and I think the motivation and chemistry has to be wielded by the coach at this level).
I think the bottom line is that this team started reading its press clippings and got a little over confident and lost some of their desperation/fire and I put that blame squarely on the coaches at this level (I can understand that USM was not a "needed" win but Tulsa DEFINITELY was ...)
Anyway, let's move on and go beat Tulane's [deleted]!! I'll be happy this year at 8-4/7-5 and a bowl game but disappointed since we had so much momentum coming off that UCF game ...

IMO JJ is a better coach and a much better person than Leach. While many on this board do not like his offense and parts of his coaching style he has brought a level of success that we have not experienced in many years. I am not happy with the recent results and expect that things will change. If not we will probably lose to Navy, Rice and get totally pounded by cougar high. End result, our record will be about the same as last year.
GO PONIES!!!
