Remember he has a long history with some quality college programs. (USC, wisconsin, ucla, ohio state.) He is is not a major recruiter, but will get out there as needed. Meanwhile, he has coached some studs. As for Reinebold leaving, somehow I would not bet on that. JJ loves having him around, and JR and Phillips share the same Management team. Don't see then getting one client in to then have one canned.

Go Ponies!

If he is so good why doesn't he have a job

He basically left ucla with his old buddy Neuheisel. I rather suspect he had had other contacts given his connections in the coaching world.

True because Coach Hill is bringing in a DE that only played JV prior to his offer and did not even make all district in his senior season when he did play on the varsity team. Reinebold tweeted to take full advantage of the social media as a recruiting tool. Some don't seem to recognize that.

A lot of recruiting is behind the scene. We have a guy in the office who still has hs coaching contacts. Notice the recruits we get out of the Garland, Rockwall and Mesquite districts. Hmm

And a lot of that was via Coach Hollingshead. hmm. But look at Palcic's recruiting record. hmm.

There were several other head coaches that got fired after Neuhesiel and most of those coaching staffs have been hired. Somehow I don't think he was in high demand.

If he is so good why didn't UCLA keep him instead of Klemm?

He may be a fine OL coach but he is not what we need.

Our OL play was pretty horrible this year so maybe this is one positive of this hire...maybe?

I may be ok with it if we get rid of Haering and Gansz and bring in some guys that can find their way to a high school or two. I just do not like that we may be looking at yet another coach that doesn't know a soul in Texas and doesn't recruit at all. We should be learning from our past mistakes not repeating them.

If anyone saw the UCLA offensive line last year you know it was nothing to brag about. The UCLA QB's were constantly getting bet up.

I know lol, the Texas game was one of the worst performances I have seen by a teams offensive line.

That (leaving with a coaching buddy who made the hire) is not unusual. Might be that it wasn't his choice, either.

And for those who think the other coaches sit around doing nothing while one or two did all of the recruiting, consider the lists of players recruited by each over the last couple of years:

MASON: Kris Weeks, Tom Mason, Rishaad Wimbley, Zach Wood, Stephon Sanders, Jonathan Yenga, Maurice Hood, Kevin Pope, Kenneth Acker, Der'Rikk Thompson

MORRISON: Conner Preston (shared with Klemm), Ronnell Sims, Darius Joseph, Derek Longoria, Steve Kaiser, Ricky Collins, Jeremy Johnson, Randall Joyner

HILL: Cameron Smith, Darrian Wright, Darryl Fields, Mike O'Guin (shared with Reinebold), John Bordano, Forrest Hagar, Hayden Greenbauer

ODUM: Rodney Hubert, Michael Sparling, Chris Parks, Brandon Thornton, Justin Sorrell, Kyle Guinyard, Richard Crawford

Thank You. Why were you the only one to think of this?
However, Not sure this guy should leave. Lb's are the best unit on the team.

We are going to disagree on who actually gets credit for a lot of those guys. Rivals disagrees with you on a lot of those btw. Between those guys this year we have 6 commits, 1.5 per coach. That is terrible. Mason has been pretty good in 2010 and 2011 but only got 2 guys this year. Morrison got no one this year. Odum got one guy. Hill 3 but one of them is a JV superstar. That isn't good.

Ask the incoming LB recruits who their position coach is. They all have been mentioning Mason no one talks about Haering.

Yes goldenstang, I would like to see a coach with some TX ties. However, I don't see the end of the world. Palcic is well known and respected. Even while at ucla, cal coach Tedford tried to get Palcic on the staff.)

I also heard good things about him from ucla friends. Quotes from Nick Ekbatani reflect from of this:

"The two-year sentence I served under him initially seemed like I was on some prison chain gang working for an intolerable warden. However, upon conclusion of year two…that evil old man became one of the more memorable and respectable persons I had ever encountered. Playing for him was an experience that I wouldn’t trade for the world. He brought out the potential in me that many coaches failed to. He kept me hungry and on a course of development in which I continued to grow as a player. He never gave up. He helped me “grow up” as a player and as a man. I’ll always hold him to a high regard."

Also,

"All the self-proclaimed experts out on the forums can say all they want about the lack of play from the OL in the past four years at UCLA. But their mindless slander cant hold a flame to the facts; Bob Palcic continuously made chicken salad out of chicken [deleted] during his tenure at UCLA. He is to be commended for his efforts, and I know that I am not the only OL that had played under him to feel this way."

If this hire happens, let us hope the best.

That is high praise to be sure, and I will hope for the best. I do not wish for anyone to fail. I am just not excited about adding more recruiting deadweight especially if it is Reinebold that is leaving.

Palic is a great position coach. UCLA's line play was horrible, but the amount of injuries they suffered over the past two years was almost comical. And there was not a ton of talent left over from Dorrell to begin with. The bummer is that while a good coach, Palic is old and not a very active recruiter, which is exactly what we dont need on this staff. The only real positive to this hire is he is an experienced and talented coach which is what our young but talented O-line could use. And it is not that he is a bad recruiter......he just does not do it! His opinion is one of that recruiting is for the young guys on the staff and he is there to coach. So not what we need!
