Almost all of us are grateful, that doesn't mean it's time for a change. I want him gone now, mid-season, and I would be one of the first to give some money for a statue of him. My problem is that he doesn't recruit anyone and he doesn't care about our school. He can't beat winning teams and pencils in games as losses? WHAT COACH PLANS ON LOSING A GAME?!?!?!? He's been mentally checked out since the ASU debacle. He needs to go.
After you spend a little more time around PF, you'll start to get it (hopefully)
Perfect summary of my feelings exactly. I am very grateful for what he has done. It's like the fact that I am very grateful that my lawn guys mowed my lawn last week making it look nice when it was unruly before that, but if they start mowing only the front yard next week, I'm going to be upset. I feel like he is not doing the full job anymore and has lost his desire for the job. I hope he walks amicably at the end of the year, and we all are grateful what he did do. What I don't want is more wasted year(s) with a coach who does not appear to want the job other than the paycheck.

But you were using the example that he hasn't had a QB for four years as reason for more time but here you're saying he does deserve some blame for that. Which is it? You can't have it both ways
I don't see the inconsistency.
I understand JJ bringing in his own guy (even though I am sure JW would have won more than 1 game). BLM was a miss. But Kyle Padron seemed to all to be the real deal. We were all thinking Heisman possibilities when he went 5-1 in his first 6 starts as a true freshman. In 2010 we made it to the conference championship game and a bowl game, but Kyle was bothered by injuries for the latter part of the season and, maybe as a result of that, his trajectory of improvement leveled out a little. I don't think we know the whole story, but KP (and maybe Mr. Patron, Sr.) did enough to convince JJ to bench him after the awful start to the A&M game and go the rest of the season with JJMcD. There is the issue of the "injury" to Kyle but I really don't think we know enough about what went on to blame JJ for the departure of Kyle. McDermott did an outstanding job until he got injured against TCU (or UCF), and he showed a great return to form in the Compass Bowl. But the fact that a transfer in his last year of eligibility was playing raises flags. Again, however, it is not that clear cut, Steven Kaiser was much hyped upon his arrival and was expected as I recall (I am open to correction) to succeed Kyle, but he was struck down by multiple bouts of mono and history does not show how much this affected his play though it is clear from the use of JJMcD and then throwing GG right into the mix, that Kaiser was not going to get the job done. Connor Preston of course was also in the mix but was, it seems, a total miss. But given the dramatic failure and departure of the bright star that KP represented, I don't think it is a surprise that QBs of top caliber were not signing up. We all expected Kyle to be playing his senior year last year. This year would have been where the failure of Kaiser or Preston to meet expectations would be felt, and I am guessing we would have thrown RS Freshman Burcham into the fray. GG has at least allowed Burcham to get another year in the system before hitting the field, my guess is that the original plan was probably Kaiser this year, and maybe next, but with Burcham challenging.
In summation, I think the lack of understanding exactly what happened with Kyle, his injury, etc., along with the illness of Steven Kaiser makes it hard to lay all the blame on JJ for the lack of stability at the QB position. Neal Burcham is the top QB recruit we have had under JJ (transfers aside), and he is on pace to to start in his RS Sophomore year. I think one can at least fashion an argument that having JJ here next year would be rational as far as the QB goes. Otherwise we are having a new coach and a QB who has never started and who (if it's Burcham) has never played in that coaches system, or (in the case of another QB brought in by the coach) is probably a true freshman who was never played college ball. This would be one instance where I think it would be an advantage to have June here next year. A coach who follows June in 2015 would at lease inherit a starting QB RS Junior with a year of starting experience.
Holy mother of pearl. I could fashion an argument that the world is flat, and do it more convincingly than this selective pick this, discount that, he got sick, blah blah blah. Other schools have kids who get sick, hurt, miss the team bus to a game , etc. but somehow most seem to manage a heck of a lot better than we/jj have. Hmmm, wonder why?
Jj has miserably failed at landing a D-1 caliber QB, as seen to date. That's it.

Losing by 5+ touchdowns to Baylor and a&m certainly makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside.

They have a pill for that.

That's...not anything to be proud of. They're not playing out of respect, they're playing you because they think of it as an easy win. It's similar to the "we're not laughing with you, we're laughing at you." ordeal.

There's a difference between gratefulness and pride. I am grateful for less 1-11 probability. I am not proud of 6-6 & trash bowls.

So 1-11 and 0-12 were the only thing we could accomplish before June?...really...

Will be interesting to see how this plays out during the season. PonyBoy took a spill in the polls with a few rational posts, but there's plenty of time to bounce back. FeelTheHorsePower is a new face in the polls, but he has come on strong and has the voters convinced that he is the real deal.
1. MustangsAbu (#1 on history and name brand; kind of like how UT is always in the top 25 preseason poll)
2. FeelTheHorsePower (Couple of big moves as of lately)
3. PlanoStang (Innovator of the "Emogi-Raid" JJ Defense

)
4. PonyBoy (Former No. 1 however is in a rebuilding year)
5. JasonB (No offense all defense; VaTech/Beamer ball, relies on special teams)
I don't like rankings that end in even numbers that are not a 0 or odd numbers that are not a 5 so I'm leaving it at that... (Note this post was made in good fun... do not take it personally if you made the top 5 or are mad that you didn't make the top 5)

I think you meant Emoti-Raid however.
Not sure if I should be insulted that I didn't receive any votes in 2007's poll.

"If you build it, they will come...." not so much for SMU football.

Actually meant Emoji- raid... but you're the creator of the system so title it how you want. I actually bumped you up to number two after FTHP posted a little more yesterday... he fell to 5....

I did not know that June Jones penciled in losses into his schedule...why has SMU not fired him yet? Especially after reading up on the ASU stunt he tried to pull!! I apologize but it seems to me like I was misinformed as to mister JJ...sorry guys

I doubt that JJ pencils in losses, but I doubt that he's delusional either.
95.9% of Ponyfans pencil in losses as evidenced by the pre-season record predictions on
here.

When you start believing you are an equal to an opposing team is when you start winning. If SMU played every school like they played TCU and our fans treated each opponent like if they were TCU...we would have a very different program and a full Ford Stadium

But it's more fun to bash JJ than utilize perspective.
