Even if Hall does not think so? Oh well, hopefully he will surprise us all.

Burcham might be ok. However we lose our top two receiving options in Jeremy Johnson and Keenan Holman. Der'rikk "Stone Hands" Thompson and Darius Joseph are our only two WR's that have done much of anything in an actual game. Oh yeah. And we lose our best OL in Gottschalk. Should be a great year on offense.

P.S. No Mumme to hide the antiquated Run N Shoot either.

Assuming every thing goes 100% perfect with Burchum like JasonB likes to do- what exactly are the chances that a skinny QB that runs 4.8 in a Run N Shoot behind our Offensive Line makes it through season without injury?
Whose the backup?
We are not building a program we are pugging holes in the dike. (Add your own joke here)

With fans like you who needs enemies?

Burcham's a more than serviceable QB who could turn out to be very good.

Don't forget he couldn't get through the entire UCF game. Offense had three shots to get one yard - couldn't do it - got concussed trying to sneak the ball off the RT on 4th and inches. Blam. Out.

The deck is stacked against him doing anything of note at SMU. His coach is a lame duck and he has very little talent surrounding him. I think he'll turn out to be a very good FCS QB though.

ClickClack wrote:
If you state that Colbert could have the skills of a "protypical qb" shouldn't he be our starting QB? Why should we start Burcham just because he knows our system. Burcham has already been given his shot and showed us that he is not capable of winning. I am tired of our Football Team settling. Let's try something different. Colbert or Severt. Whatever it is that we were doing last year definitely did not work.
Burcham was pushed into action before he was ready. Another year of physical maturation, spring ball and reps with the first team will make him better. To say he shouldn't start next year because he did not play well in 2 games before it was his time to contribute is tantamount to saying Gilbert should not have started this year because he was sub par last year.
I am with StandUp on this. It is incumbent on those that are backups to be ready so that they can step in and take advantage of their opportunity when it arises. The response from June Jones that we all read in the paper about Burcham's lack of preparation for the Houston game is telling about his character. Burcham did not take his position as a backup QB seriously. We need a leader, and I am afraid he is not it.

Hold on... I like Burchum, but I am on record saying we are going to struggle next year. We have talented young receivers, talented young corners, and I think the OL as a whole gets better with age, but we certainly aren't at a point in the program where we can replace two starting receivers, a starting QB who was a stud, our best OL, two starting corners and two starting middle linebackers and be just fine.

And before anyone harps on it, I am not saying we should not be at that point in the program. Just pointing out the obvious that we aren't there.

I know I missed on our record last year because I thought the D was going to be really good, but I did get the offensive improvement right. The year before that I said we would be 5-7 or 6-6 when everyone else was saying we would win the division.

I won't make record projections until the schedule comes out, but we are going to struggle early. Still better than UNT, but we will struggle until the team starts growing up halfway through the conference schedule.

For most of the year, the offense carried the team. Once GG got hurt, we reverted back to the defense carrying things for the last three games, and our offense trying to run clock with Burcham going to the sidelines for play calls. I don't see that changing next year with the team being so young.

And yes, I get that a lot of teams around the country have a lot of young frosh that participate. But typically, those teams have experience or really good players around them that make up for the stupid mistakes that kids are bound to make. Young QBs can be studs... if they have a great o-line in front of them that gives them all day and fantastic receivers that make plays. We aren't there yet.
