I thought the word for a few weeks now was that Turner would announce at the Jordan Classic on the 18th.
You're probabaly right. I've really stopped following his recruitment all that closely.

How many scholarships does KU have available? Just saw former App St. commit, Devonte Graham (PG) is meeting with KU on Friday. Random guess is that they have room for him and Turner or will create room, but was still wondering.

Depends on Andrew White. If he (or someone else) transfers they have two more, otherwise just one.

Any evidence suggesting thats even a remote possibility at this point? Seems like a Texas/KU race to me

But if we do we might be happy. The WDNWHA Committee has not yet made a decision.

This is one of the longest ones you all have taken to make a decision on. Tough call, I know. Your jobs are not easy. Tough work, being on the committee.

We have determined we should have our decision on or about 4/18.

I would site as evidence that we are still holding open one ship.

Why would he have *just* added us to his list if we weren't more than a remote possibility?

Did he? (or did some blogger say he did?) Was he quoted directly?
Anyway, here's what I've seen of Turner:
1 - very long (very good for shot blocking/protecting the rim/catching balls up high like when trying to beat the press or catching/passing out of a high ball screen, etc)
2 - great shooter, especially for his size (good to stretch the defense but I want my 7 footer at the rim grabbing rebounds and blocking shots and putting back bunnies and tips) - this is probably his best asset and something SMU would value the most
3 - pretty decent ball handler, especially for his size (although the ball has a long way to travel from floor to his fingertips) - don't really want my 7 foot center bringing the ball up the floor though
4 - gets pushed around a lot
5 - looks very unstable/"hobbles" around a lot (would be very concerned about his durability)
6 - seems like a mature, smart young man (program can't have too many of these).
All in all, he seems extremely overrated. He looks like a deer growing into their new legs (which is the case for him since he had a late growth spurt I think). If he stays healthy and puts on another 20 pounds or so, I foresee him coming on later in his career. I just don't see the hype right now. Yes, he's 7 feet tall (that's great). Yes, he has a good shot and he seems very mature and smart. However, to me, he just looks like Yanick with a jump shot (which is a big improvement).
Again, I'd love to have him but won't cry when we don't get him and don't think he's really going to be a huge program changer anywhere (Kansas and Duke will both be very good without him --- Texas will suck either way).

seems like most 7 footers are recruited on hype-then you look at their high school stats and wonder what the big deal is. You are projecting to next level. Rare to have a polished 7 footer in high school but I agree Ogafor is pretty dominate

To answer your question ojaipony, he has put us on his list. I think I have posted this interview before but it may have been on the Rivals Natl. board. His father stated that he was considering 9 schools now. Including SMU and A&M. The interview was done after his Texas official.

I found it interesting, albeit probably coincidental, that his father left out Self in this quote:
"It’s a good look," David said. "He’ll fit in wherever he decides to go but of course selfishly for the parents, it’s a little better for us. But to get developed by somebody like Larry Brown or Coach [Mike] Krzyzewski or Thad Matta, I mean he has good choices. So we’ll sit down and decide what’s best for him."mathman wrote:To answer your question ojaipony, he has put us on his list.
