I don't disagree. Almost seems like a case of "winning the press conference."

I knew that we should have hired Dr. Bill Tedford, former chair of the SMU Psych dept, as Head Coach back when we had the chance...

Good God! That article is appalling. Glad SMU will be moving on.

Seems like reasonable due diligence would have shown that this relationship wouldn't work out nearly as well as everyone wanted it to.
The greater question is why would intelligent and experienced businessmen like Hunt and Sewell fail in their due diligence as trustees? They sit on the board and are ultimately responsible along with Turner. Apparently, SMU failed to investigate June Jones. They hired him because he took Hawaii to the Sugar Bowl.
This is a great question. Even moreso this question applies to the CoC. We may have some of the worst boosters from a football knowledge and judgment standpoint in all football. People criticize Turner for 25 years of failure, but the controllers of his lifeblood, money, are even more responsible.

So when June says he did not get the support he needed from the administration, this is the kind of stuff he was talking about. He wanted to hire professors for the university. I get Hawaii is a joke of an academic institution, but coaches don't get to hand pick faculty members anywhere. Put aside the fact this is an Uncredentialed quack.

And for the record, I am a youth lacrosse coach and I can pick out the kids that will be good regardless of skill level too. I just never thought to call what I do research or suggest I have some kind of genius.
Identifying the mental aspect of good athletes is easy and can be done by asking a kid 2-3 questions and watching how they respond.

yeah that's what kills me. College Football players have been playing and training for football for 5-10 years especially at some of the football factories in Texas. Picking "winners" among untrained Little Leaguers has no relevance to recruiting among a pool of highly trained athletes

Charleston Pony I doubt he learned anything,
but I would not be surprised at all if another school hires him.
Some schools would be happy as June says with "four bowls in six seasons",
but please don't take that to mean I think June should still be here.
I am glad he is gone. He had checked out and actually never seemed
happy here. It will be interesting to watch where he lands.

I hope he ends up in the northeast somewhere like Buffalo. Let him walk sockless through the lake effect snow.

I wonder what the 2008 job interview was like.
Orsini: "Here's a pile of money."
June: "Any questions for me?"
Orsini: "None. We'll build you a statue if you win 7 games."
June: "Mahalo, haole."

Agree. These are HS kids who have been playing a contact sport their entire lives. By the time they are recruitable, you have enough background on a kid to know how they will respond 90% of the time. Recruit athleticism.

It makes me angry that people here defended him until the end even though he was slowly wrecking the program over a three year period, and it wasn't very hard to see it happening. I hope they feel good about talking down to those who rightfully called out JJ. It turns out that the JJ excuse makers were a big part of the problem.
