Re: New Construction
If they had left the great houses where they were originally they could have built the engineering buildings on SMU Blvd and dabbed everyone a lot of money

Funny, I never heard that about HT, but definitely remember hearing that about UL.

anyone honestly know how that works? There are so many rumors on campus and no one really knows. Even as a high ranking officer in the past and talking to a lot of in the know alumni no one really knows for sure. Fraternities pay some for the new house and SMU pays some? Not our fault they are making us move what if a fraternity can't pony up the money?

How could it be administration buildings? In 15 years we have gone from just little Perkins Admin to that, plus the big Blanton building, plus an office tower east of 75. Same number of students

This is an issue across the higher education industry. A big driver in the increase in cost is the rapid increase in administrators.

Then you're going to be waiting for a very long time. As long as higher education is viewed as the best and easiest path to career success there will be parents/people willing to fork over whatever is needed to give little betty and little bobby the best education possible.
Back off Warchild seriously.

I thought this was why SMU just did a round of layoffs, to help cut back the amount of admin cost.

Meanwhile, as politicians continue to desire their own election, they will continue to create 4-year degree programs that are "affordable" and "accessible" for a larger amount of the public (because voters think that creating more opportunity is "good"). As more and more people go to college, the value of the bachelor's degree as a credential will be diminished overall, unless it is achieved from a well-regarded institution. Thus, these well-regarded institutions (such as Rice, SMU, Tulsa, TCU, Michigan, Virginia, etc.) will continue to be able to charge more for their degrees as it becomes even more important to not just have ANY bachelor's degree, but a degree from a school with a name that means something. Conversely, the value of degrees from schools that have "accessible" and "affordable" programs will drop as newly created programs will pump out graduates who will not be able to obtain jobs that they cannot already obtain today without a degree. In this way, the state governments continue to place in debt the very citizens that they should be helping to thrive.

lacrosse just south of the bush library. Under construction now i believe.
Track and Soccer going over on the east side more than likely.
