In the past 2 years, he has raised the level of talent across the board and managed to plug most of the major holes in the process. Nevertheless, it is important to understand that he had a limited amount of scholarships to work with and a number of areas that were complete disaster areas. There was simply no way to "fix" everything in 2 recruiting classes.

anyone who has followed this program is aware that the last team JJ fielded came close (based on W/L record and average margin of defeat) to being the worst team in the history of SMU football. Let's see how things look in year 5 and hope this coaching staff is still together here as continuity is important in building a program

SMU's third team talent will be better than June Jones' first string talent at many positions by 2017.

see QB, RB, WR, DLM, CB -not there at OLM yet because it takes a few more years to develop

in defense of JJ, he did have some quality DBs that turned out good enough to play on Sundays but we can all agree his final roster was pretty void of talent

CP, it was far worse than that. Late in the 2014 season we were on course to field one of the all-time worst teams in the history of College Football based on margin of defeat.

Heading into the CT game, we were 0-11, being defeated by an average score of 44-9.

JJ left no doubt he had built a solid "Bottom 10" program

If only Turner and the Circle of Champions had listened to PonyFans; JJ would have been gone after AZ

This.

And I have to go on to suggest that the BB sponsors showed more smarts in offering Coach Brown only one year certain, even as I wish he had taken it.

It really is analogous to a relationship I feel like. If my wife were off talking to another guy the way JJ was with ASU I end it right then and there. I don't care about the baggage and sunk cost fallacies involved. Eff that noise, the strength of a program, like most things in life, come from healthy and trustworthy relationships. Taking back JJ at that moment shows just how low SMU valued itself.

There is no doubt the biggest mistake was not letting him go after the ASU debacle. Had we done that and hired the right successor we would have been on the heels of 3 bowl games and still had enough talent to compete for 2 more years before a precipitous drop in talent. That would have given us a 3 year head start on our current process. Given what was discovered I think we could have fired him then with cause.

What if the prenup said you had to give her considerable assets but in another year the prenup would be a much lesser hit.

Depends on how badly you want next year's model

I do not think the new model was available yet.
