So you are turning on the coach that helped SMU get to relevancy. While we may not like him not accepting a a short term contract there is no reason to bash the man. If we had not had Coach Brown we probably would have went to the NIT nor NCAA tournaments nor gotten all the high quality players we got.

I love LB as much as anyone on here, but his kids can ABSOLUTELY pay retail tuition from now on...

I hope LB can take over ECU or something so our strength of schedule increases

I'm also assuming that Larry won't throw a bunch of shade in the way of the team. He's preached family above all, now is time to show that you mean it. Hopefully the calls to the players were to solidify that Jank is the man and we are in great shape to do great things.
Couldn't agree more. If LB signs a five year deal, isn't Jank out of here? I'm sure his goals and ambitions are not as a career assistant. LB probably coaches another 2-3 years and then what? No Jank...he's gone. Hate it, but being a pony fan often means having to deal with crap like this. It's what makes us so special and unique. Go Ponies!

Jank is a good guy. A good coach. A good recruiter. He doesn't have the name recognition of LB (who does?) but I think we will be taking a step forward. Lots of fun with Larry. Move on... what else can you do?

Why is it seriously so hard to be an SMU fan?

So he quits with a year left on his contract and has his agent call and deliver the news. I have been a fan of his work here but his actions stink. He should be ashamed. Hell, if he honors his contract and coaches us to a sweet 16 this year, he probably leverages himself to that 5 year contract.....

I am sure LB can afford tuition. But still no reason to bash LB.

Maybe its a fool's hope in the corrupt cesspool that is college athletics today. . . the next crisis always seems to be right around the corner. . . but what I'd really like to see is some stability in the bball program. I'll be very disappointed if the APR leads to another post-season ban. And after KF, NCAA sanctions, APR issues, top guys committing and then not getting in, etc., I'm just looking for a little less drama. It's too exhausting.

Possibly cut his pay with a new deal. It'll be interesting to see what kind of contract Janks gets.

So far, Jank is undefeated as the SMU head coach with a 9 game win streak going. Not a bad replacement at all.

I'd say this is shocking, but we're talking about Larry Brown. Look at his history, this falls in line with it.

I'm as dissapointed as everyone else, especially with the timing, but you can't fault SMU here IMO. They offered him a 2-3 year extension, and instead of further negotiating, the man just walked away. As long as the program stayed clean, and APR wasn't a total disaster, he would've been here as long as he wanted. It is what it is, we're lucky we have Jank ready to go and don't have to have another farce of a search for a head coach. We're not going to be in the discussion for many more Mudiays or KF's, but where did those guys get us anyway? Lets keep getting Frolings, Moores, and Sterling Browns. We'll be fine.

While he did not win an NCAA tournament game at SMU he made us relevant in just 4 seasons. For the record I don't think Jank has won an NCAA tournament either. Has Jank ever taken an NCAA team to the tournament as a head coach? I do think LB left him with some good players. Now after those players are gone will see if Jank can reload effectively.

DMN just released an article saying Larry would have had to take a pay cut and only had one year fully guaranteed...
