What is Cowlishaw talking about? The SMU administration's stance on academics hasn't impeded us from getting guys in or keeping them eligible (at least for football) since June took over and changes were made.
There's plenty of reasons we're not viable -- low attendance, three wins in two years, Texas not wanting another in-state school....but academics are no longer an issue. Would be nice if people who do this for a living could get basic facts straight

FWIW, FedEx is offering to become the Title Sponsor for a Conference Championship and provide a nice sponsorship package for Big 12 basketball if Memphis joins.
