There’s something on the basket that says no tie or win for you SMU...

Shake has missed 4 good locks in this half.

Final score made it appear an easy win but this was a typical 1st game with several new faces that you are just glad to have survived

Nothing about this was easy. We can’t assume anything anymore even in Moody!

Nice to have a guy like Shake in close games like this. Team hit 75% FTs which helps down the stretch and Shake went 10-10

Chargois played well.
Whitt played like he hadn't played in over a year.
the rest of the freshman played like freshman.

I was impressed with the student turnout and their noise. It made a difference- the team seemed to respond to the atmosphere. Gotta gel over th next 4-5 games or it’ll be a long season. I think we will. The key is Whitt- will he step up and provide a slasher to the basket to draw files and create space for our other players. Shake, Gu (despite 2 early fouls), and Jarrey looked good.
Douglas - played real tight - can’t believe he’s a 4 star

We were down seven at the half to a good team. Second half score was 40-22. Not worried at all.
Chargois and Ray are going to be solid over their careers here.

Re: Official: SMU vs. UMBC Thread
that actually was a great game for us to play. We got challenged by a team hitting their shots and dug our way out a hole. Playing 4 freshman and another newcomer they made a lot of freshman fouls but they all looked like they belonged out there and responded well in 2nd half with better defense and rebounding. Could have used Akoy and the USF transfer too-we'll be fine later this season
I really didn't like all the first half fouls but the youngsters were using their hands and not moving their feet. A lot of the freshman calls in first half were actually good calls. Cut that out in 2nd half. Its not easy to play excellent defense without fouling like our last 2 teams (especially Ben and Sterling) but they definitely improved in 2nd half. I thought one of the better plays was on a drive to the Basket pretty late in 2nd half when the score was close and Chargois did a great job of moving his feet and disrupted the play.
BTW great job on conditioning by Chargois-he looked like a Marshmellow early in the year last year but really worked hard. Lost about 15 pounds of fat and turned it into muscle. I barely recognized him from last year's video. Great start big guy.
Ball movement though needs to improve significantly-we weren't the same passing team we've been the last 4 years obviously but pretty much expected early
I'll be interested in how UMBC does this year because they were much better than I expected and those 2 guards could play for us.
