Samples is the key to everything. If we had a competent AD he'd be in Samples ear letting him know that he is the star and we will do whatever it takes to retain him and keep him happy.

I say go full bat S crazy. Ed Orgeron. The guy has a National Championship. So, he turned a blind eye to some player indiscretions. And he may have been chasing every skirt on campus. The guy can coach and he might as well do his G-5 penance at SMU.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

He was fired by Ole Miss and LSU. He just got lucky with Joe Burrow. What makes you think he can coach? If his indiscretions are true, that is a hard no.

Swing for the fences and go after Pete Carroll. He's struggling in Seattle this season so it may be time for him to move on. SMU could be his last stop if we make him feel welcome with a massive deal.

Rape is not "indiscretion."

Bingo.

100% spot on on Samples being the key. However, you lost me after "competent AD"...

Makes me wonder if Sonny and Jim were planning for this and brought in Leavitt as heir apparent.

Leavitt has proven he can coach but does he like the environment at SMU and can he $uck up to the money guys to accomplish what is necessary...and I agree retaining Samples is a big part of the equation. He's supposed to be Dallas guy, right? Not a cowtown guy hopefully

He went to OSU so not opposed to cow towns. How about make him HC? Hard to make Leavitt HC and keep Samples unless you make him OC and Assoc HC.

Might be able to get the entire University of Miami coaching staff soon - that would give you Diaz and Lashee. Word is they may be fired. Obviously good Texas ties for recruiting.

ok - this might make a good coaching group- GP, cumby, leavitt and samples.

Plus with that group you might keep a few top recruits and players.
