What in the world has happened to Georgia Tech? They are 11-12 but just played at both Louisville and Clemson and won both.
I didn't watch GT-Ville but that game last night was awful at the end. Less Tech catching fire than Clemson looking awful. Duke-Clemson this weekend will be interesting.Hop Sing wrote:What in the world has happened to Georgia Tech? They are 11-12 but just played at both Louisville and Clemson and won both.
Could do all that and, depending on other results, still finish with zero Quad 1 wins. Time to root for other results as well.Hop Sing wrote:Don't slip up against teams with losing records on the road, and then beat Pitt, Wake Forrest, Clemson at home. They have been playing much better team ball the last two games which gives me hope. This could be a really fun February-March.
Don't know what everyone else expected this year but I had "hoped"" we could go .500 in ACC playshadowman wrote:We have definitely laid some eggs in our premiere games, but I bet everyone on this board would have been thrilled at the beginning of the season if we were told that 23 games in, SMU would be 18-5 and 9-3 in ACC play.
Neither of you is wrong, but part of SMUΓÇÖs over performance is simply how horrid nearly all the ACC is this year. And to the comment above about Ga Tech catching fire being a thing that might help SMU? Only if the Jackets could get to Q1. They are now 118, and the SMU-GT game was in Moody, do theyΓÇÖd have to get all the way to #30 for SMUΓÇÖs win to be a Quad 1 win. GT *cannot* get there. Do not root for them or be happy they beat Clemson. ThatΓÇÖs an unfortunate result from SMUΓÇÖs perspective.Charleston Pony wrote:Don't know what everyone else expected this year but I had "hoped"" we could go .500 in ACC playshadowman wrote:We have definitely laid some eggs in our premiere games, but I bet everyone on this board would have been thrilled at the beginning of the season if we were told that 23 games in, SMU would be 18-5 and 9-3 in ACC play.

We have huge opportunity games remaining against Wake & Clemson but our reality is that we have not beaten a power conference opponent with a winning record in conference play except for Stanford and we still have to play them on the west coast so a loss there could negate the win in Moody. I'd like to think this SMU team has improved from the beginning of this season but it remains to be seen if they can beat "good teams" or whether they are a mediocre team in what has unquestionably been a down year for the ACC. Right now I would say our "best win" was against Stanford and it was a very convincing win albeit against a short handed Cardinal team.ponyte wrote:Clemson and Duke, Louisville and Miami and WF @ Cal today. Highly unlikely all three, Clemson, Louisville and WF lose, but if so we would be tied 2nd. Worse case after today, remain tied 4th. Could be tied 3rd or possible fourth alone. Nice position to be in that we can't move down in the standings and could move up-. Still a long way to go but who would imagine at this time in the season we could be as high as 2nd only to Duke. Know it's a pipe dream. Still remarkable season for the Mustangs so far.
time for SMU to step up and serveCharleston Pony wrote:Clemson comes back in the 2nd half to beat Duke by 6 proving the Blue Devils are not invincible. Stanford beats NCSU to keep pace for one of those top 4 seeds
