Me and my entourage made our farewell visit to Texadelphia in Old Town prior to the SMU vs Memphis game. I don't know whether the people on the other side of the counter swam across, climbed across or were trucked across, but if I had not been familiar with international facial expressions, I could never have ordered. No welcome, no "may I help you?" or "what would you like?" no nuthin'. Took my money... no "thank you" no "gracias", no "help yourself to the drinks", no "if you need anything let us know" no conversation AT ALL. I ordered a "Doaker" and it was not "fixed" the way I asked (no lettuce, extra jalapenos) and everyone else's order was correct (so-to-speak) but the food was not very good. The main thing is, when I spend $76 at a burger joint, I want somebody affiliated with the establishment to say "thanks" when they take my money. Sorry, there won't be any more .37 donations on my behalf. What a loser of a restaurant. Adios, mo-fo!

Found a new burger that desperately needs to undergo the close scrutiny that only our Burger Guys can provide: there's a restaurant in the Hotel Lumen (on Hillcrest, across from Meadows) called "Social." They have a kobe beef burger that is terrific. I've never been a big fan of hotel food, but this one was sensational.

The kobe beef Extreme Dallas Burger at Humperdinks is pretty good. Plus, the waitresses are cute. and they have enough TV's that I could watch 4 games at once, which kind of came in handy during the NCAA tournament. And my waitress was very sweet.

At long last, I finally sampled The Doaker at Texadelphia, and I have to admit, it was much better than I thought it would be. Not a big fan of chain places, as a rule, but the burger itself was really pretty good.

Some things need to be changed:

1. A do-over on the nice mural of SMU stuff (sweet picture fo Luchi Gonzalez doing a bicycle kick during his Herman Trophy-winning season) is vital -- time to ditch the arched SMU lettering.

2. Way too much Aggie and Horn crap. Of course, any Aggie crap or Horn crap is too much.

3. Apparently "no jalapenos" is too complex for some folks to understand. But flick those on the plate of some poor sap who actually eats such things, and the flavor of the burger does a solid job of trying to overcome the nasty taste of the leftover jalapeno juice.

Waffle-style fries are pretty decent, too. Not great, but certainly not bad. On the above rankings, The Doaker would fall at about 13 or 14, and that's not just because it was named after The Great Doak Walker.

So where in the hell have you been?
