Orsini is the man? I guess the Search Committee for the Tennessee AD job didn't agree when he lobbied agressively to get that job two months ago.

The search firm - Parker Search - didn't even interview him despite his placing several calls to push himself for the position.

Oh well ... Top 25 and all that stuff --

I've heard from his mouth and others in the administration that it is a priority. (2ndandlong on Orsini's commitment to SMU ticket sales)

Orsini was presented with this opportunity on two occasions -- once in 2008 and once in 4th quarter 2009.

This is actually interesting to me. In 2008 we went 1-11; in 2009 we made our first bowl game in 25 years, which everyone thought was a fluke. If I was an AD I would have said we have to establish the program as a legit contender first before we can spend a heckuva lot of resources trying to market something unproven. Now that the brand is getting national recognition, there is a much better chance that a legitimate offer of marketing support to increase attendance could be broached. But like any scorned child, you were told no at the time and rather than evaluate the timing of your suggestion you instead chose to take your ball and go home. A suggestion from this board to do a mini season ticket package was made after the Iron Skillet game. It was thoughtfully written and respectfully submitted, and lo and behold the package was offered 24 hours later. I'm sure whoever approached Orsini back then with a plan to increase ticket sales could get his attention if it is done with a modicum of respect (meaning if your friend wants to broach the subject, Otter, don't go with him). I would wait til he is back in town though, what with the whole Big East invite being worked out. I'd hate to have your feelings hurt again because he tells you that alignment requires all his attention for the next 72 hours or so.

Otter - you are insisting that the attendance at SMU games is bad, I think your numbers prove that SMU is right on track. UT is 5 times the size of SMU in terms of enrollment. They have roughly 50,000 students and we have 10,000 students. If you take our 23,515 average (your numbers from last year) and multiply it by 5,roughly you have 117,000+. 4 years ago, it would be 85,855. You could actually make the case from your reported numbers that the interest level of SMU is at an all-time high. If you want to focus on the empty seats in the stands, I would look at the teams that SMU is playing and ask them why they aren't bringing fans to the game. That is not going to change much when and/if we go to the Big East. Most of the east side is the visitor side and for most games that side is empty.

Orsini's former employer is about to become a BCS school. Orsini's current employer is about to become a BCS school. Suck it. End of story.

Yeah, that is not going to hurt the resume. Not saying he is going anywhere, should be going anywhere, etc, just saying they are two good accomplishments he will get some credit for.
