Anyone who wants to replace JJ with Leach is truly a football ignoramus who does not deserve a rational argument. Why would we want to replace class with trash?

I believe that Jones had a goal to reach at SMU. The goal was to get the team into position that they could get and accept an invitation to an AQ conference. Although not yet done, it does appear that this goal will soon be reached. I would not be surprised to see him leave at any time after the deal is done, be that 5 years from the acceptance or 5 days from the acceptance.
That said, I think he may still have pride in trying to take the team a little bit further and if Printz is half the player I think he is, Jones may want to stay for him (or take him with him elsewhere). But getting into the AQ was the goal and some day Jones is going to want to go back to the Islands and know he completed his mission at SMU. I will thank him for what he has done and hope we have a successful new hire.
I do hope he stays for a few more years however. I think maybe he might just take a shine to Peruna if he stays long enough.

Can the board just shut down for a day after an SMU lose?
Not having people able to post after the USM game did a lot to keep people from posting nonsense and gave people time to take a deep breath and relax. Also perhaps a 7 day waiting period on newly registered poster so newbies have to wait until the next game to post neejerk reactions. They should get bored and move on to another team to live vicariously through by hating before then.

They would just post under one of the old names that they have used before to spout the same type of stuff.

Yeah, that's a great idea, Chairman Mao. Control that free speech.
Perhaps SMU should begin approaching this relationship with Jones the way he does: get as much out of it while we can and start thinking about the future.

mrydel- I know you are far more connected to fball info than I but that is the first time I heard of his goal being getting to AQ. I was always under the impression it was more like winning the NC.
I would hope he stays far longer than just getting us to an AQ conference.
My greater concern is that he was promised an IPF. That promise seems to have become nothing more than lip service and we all know he left Hawaii because they would not give him the needed facilities.
GO PONIES!!!

We need a location for the IPF before we can build it. Also have a few more projects that need to get completed first. Can't have the entire campus under construction at one time.

June gets anything and everything he wants here. He'll get his IPF too. Please, any suggestions on where to put it would be greatly appreciated. If he were to leave because of "lack of facilities," I, and I'm sure SMU would have a SERIOUS bone to pick with him.

My statement on Jone's goal was an opinion on my part and I apologize for not stating such. I believe it is an informed opinion based on information I have acquired over the past few years. Again, nothing solid but I do believe he will have attained his primary goal when we reach AQ. Does not mean he will leave, just that he could leave knowing he achieved what he set out to do.

Is it too late to go for Paul Johnson again? I'd love to see Line as an option FB.
Keep your hands off of my Johnson.
But seriously, once June wears off (inevitably) - SMU ought to look at the current Navy coach or Jeff Monken down at Ga. Southern. Go spread option and don't look back.
At Tech we frequently have to line up against teams that physically outgun us. Scheme helps - it levels the playing field enough that we can take a vastly more talented #5 Clemson and blast them if we execute well. But scheme can only take you so far. Teams with NFL-laden DL's or extra time to prepare have made us look bad. We tend to blow the doors off of teams with similar talent levels - which I think is the case with SMU in the CUSA (or even in the horribly depleted Big East).
SMU is still on shaky ground and just needs to establish a winning tradition, year in, year out. The spread option would probably guarantee winning football, but may never be able to win them all. But that was probably true regardless of what scheme you run.
