He still held a UNT offer (that their coaching staff tried to solidify with an in-home visit this past week). They clearly wanted him even after he picked up the SMU offer and scheduled a visit.

The Denton paper reported about a month ago that UNT no longer considered him a commit and was looking to replace him, which they did. They did give him one last chance to commit before giving his offer away, but when he was still taking visits they gave his ship away. We shouldn't be ashamed to take players that UNT threw away.[/quote]
Sounds to me that he threw UNT away...not the other way around.

He did throw UNT away, as any player with a brain would.

To the moaners and groaners about this class below is the 2008 class SMU signed as listed by rivals. The class only had 3 three stars but one of the 2 star lb's was an honurable mention All American in 2011 as a rb.

Name Pos Stars
Chris Banjo DB 3 stars
Cole Beasley ATH 2 stars
Zachary Boyd OL 2 stars
Jimmy Chase OL 2 stars
E.J. Drewery WR 2 stars
Andrew Ellison TE 2 stars
Josh Emshoff OL 2 stars
Jordan Free OL 2 stars
Kevin Grenier TE 2 stars
Evan Huahulu OL 2 stars
Victor Jones LB 2 stars
B.J. Lee RB 2 stars
Zach Line LB 2 stars
Cole Loftin WR 2 stars
Bryce Lunday ATH 2 stars
Deyon McElroy DB 3 stars
Blake McJunkin OL 2 stars
Bo Levi Mitchell QB 2 stars
Sidney Nwangwu OL 2 stars
Alex Odiari LB 2 stars
Robert Parker LB 3 stars
Torlan Pittman DT 2 stars
Keith Robinson RB 2 stars
Andrew Robiskie OL 2 stars
Braden Smith QB 2 stars
Ryan Smith ATH 2 stars
Taylor Thompson TE 3 stars
Quincy Whittington RB 2 stars
Bennie Thomas DB
Paul McCoy

If you compared this years class against this years classes in BE you would find SMU would be about 4th or 5th in star rating, if you belive in star ratings .

I don't think anybody is saying this class was below 2008 levels. Actually it is a pretty good CUSA clsss. The problem is we are not in CUSA after next year. Scout has SMU last in the BE right now.

Do we have to go through this again? See star inflation.

This probably going to be JJ's third best recruiting class since he got here. But we'll just have to see what happens for the 2013 class.

Massive star inflation, but keep in mind that scout and rivals would have put us last in the BE every year except last year, and we still beat the crap out of Pitt.

Let's try and keep that Pitt win in prospective. Pitt was limping into the BBVA just about as badly as one could imagine. Sure, we were without Zach Line but that was not the full Pitt nor Big East experience we can expect in 2013. Come to think of it, Nevada came into the Hawaii bowl riddled with injuries as well. New Theory: Maybe June performs/coaches better when there is already blood in the water.

Pitt had 4 coaches on staff and their 2 best players were out. The interim head coach had a job at Ark St waiting for him and Todd Dodge was QB coach substituting as the OC. Pitt was 6-6. We had out head coach (even though we had the ASU fiasco) and a FULL staff. And Yes I know Line was out but our offense was pass driven and Pitt's under Graham was run driven. So as you see it we should have no problems in the BE. I will hold you to that.

I find all this revisionist history funny. It would appear that Bowl games are won by the teams that WANT it the most. For us, we WANTED those Hawaii Bowl and Compass Bowl wins. We took it very seriously at those games and had something to prove. The AFB, it was Army, not us that WANTED that win. End of story,

It's not revisionist history. It's the truth. Nothing myself or SMU'er said was false. But since they bid not have a permanent coach they may have had a lack of motivation to play which brings us back to some of what SMUer and I were saying.
