You guys are right in that we could use a good, young recruiter. But I think we all now know what we are going to get with the current regime.

I still think he will improve our line play.

If so, then this is a great hire. Our line next year, whether it's made up of holdovers or newcomers or a combination of the two, is going to have to learn quickly to play together.

We also have had a remarkable run of good health on the offensive line. That can't last forever, so the new guy is going to have to have some backups ready to go.

His UCLA recruiting areas were Las Vegas and Colorado. I probably would not spend any time recruiting kids either. I would be on the slopes or in the casinos.

I hope Palcic does a better job with the SMU line that than he did with the UCLA line. I hope Gilbert does not get hurt as much as Prince did. We'll see.

"Princes" just don't fare well at UCLA.

Also looking at his recruitng bio it seems that just about the only thing he targets in recruitng is offensive lineman.

The biggest issue with Palcic will be who we get rid of. If its some of the dead weight, then the hire is ok because Palcic has solid credentials as an OL coach and we will need an experienced coach with out new OL. If we lose JR, then the Palcic hire is much more concerning. JR's recent media silence is very concerning when combined with the Palcic hire.

Also, UCLA giving Palcic Nevada and Colorado for recruting is a dumb idea for an old coach who is not very motivated to recruit. He should be assigned somewhere local. Make recruiting easy on him and he might do more of it. Why not, we don't do much DFW recruiting anyways.

He had California and Arizona for recruiting areas. As far as recruitng goes, it could be dead weight replacing dead weight.

Want Texas recruiting ties, we could always call Jerry Bennett. He and his brother did such a spectacular job recruiting Texas for SMU and remember they were wired in. This guy looks like a guy who can teach young linemen their craft. He's coached with June before, knows June's offense, good hire.

You better tell June that... now! He probably needs to know before he goes out and hires someone that is "not the kind of guy we need."

ULCA was 61st worst team in the nation in sacks allowed last year. That could help get a coach fired. Oh wait, it did.

Like I have said I will not believe it until it actually happens.

After reading his 'recruiting success at UCLA, I sure hope that Scout is wrong again. This staff needs young active coaches who recruits, and connect with young athletes.

For straight up x's and o's, I'd be okay with this hire if we were a big state school that basically cherry-picked our recruits (UT, Michigan, OSU, etc). SMU is not that type of school, and thus this hire is a completely WRONG fit.

We are going to be in a dogfight for any top level recruits...it is just the way it is for smaller, lesser known football programs trying to claw their way up (TCU, Boise, etc). Therefore, SMU needs a high- energy, younger guy that wants to prove himself on the recruiting trail in Texas. Klemm was perfect in that role. And many top-level recruits were receptive to SMU because of that energy and the relationships AK had/was building with players, HS coaches, ect.

To hire a guy with little to no recruiting background or ties in Texas is beyond idiotic for SMU at this point in our growth. And we were so close to really becoming that "next-level" program with multiple 4 star recruits and a top 30-40 recruiting class. Guess I can kiss those dreams goodbye.
