I think most SMU fans are just happy that we seem to be offering big time money for a top level coach to lead us into the Big East. Sure, would be great if we get Buzz...but I'm okay with the direction the search seems to be going, even if Buzz is a no-go. Plenty of candidates if we are paying top dollar.
I will stay out of the trash talk, as I've never been nor wanted to visit Wisconsin. I'm a beach guy, and not that fond of cheese. But congrats on another sweet 16 and repping the Big East well.

Sure doesn't seem like it.
Also:
http://www.jsonline.com/news/milwaukee/32616334.htmlWeird. The sexiest city in America in 2008. So unless every single person left the city and the entire city was burned down in 4 years, I'm not sure what all the bashing about Milwaukee is about.
For the record, Buzz someday may leave Marquette. But it sure as hell won't be for Southern Methodist University. Sorry to burst your bubble.
You are a guest here so you really don't know the posters and the tone of the board as a whole. Few people here believe that this has a snowballs chance in hell of happening. They are just entertaining the idea that is all. A lot of us think we end up with Tony Benford instead.

And for those saying there's smoke...what smoke? Some random Twitter post from a journalist in Dallas saying SMU wants to go after Buzz? Again. I now understand how you are naive enough to think you'll land Buzz if you think that's smoke. Once again, I'd someone Tweeted "SMU to make a run at Pat Riley," is that smoke?
Hilarious.
I have many ties to Minnesota...and as far as I'm concerned the state of Wisconsin can sink to the bottom of Lake Michigan for all I care.
Hate the people's republic of Madison (i.e. The Red Army), hate the Brewers, hate the Packers and I really hate your damn highway patrol officers who camp out on I-94 with nothing else better to do.
Take your state and shove it.

Fair enough. I agree with Benford being a legitimate candidate. I would selfishly hate that, but he would be a great hire for you guys. He deserves his chance, but again, for MU purposes, I don't want to see him go. He's a great assistant coach.

Haha. I hate Madison too. There is not a worse city in this country. The Brewers are awesome. A lot of fun to watch (finally...took about 18 of the 23 years of my life to get to that point). The Packers are awesome (makes sense you would hate them with ties to Minnesota, we kick the Vikings [deleted]! And the Cowboys for that matter!

). And I agree about the highway patrol officers. That's why I love driving through IL. Nothing to worry about in terms of speed there.
Having MN ties, maybe you at least know about the REAL (aka, good) Wisconsin brews. Heard of New Glarus? Spotted Cow might be the best beer out there. Any Sprecher beer is great. And any Leinenkugel's beer is great. Those are the REAL beers of Wisconsin. Not any Miller, Pabst, or other cheap crap. If any of you get a chance to try any of those out, it is highly recommended. Your thoughts on Wisconsin beer will drastically change.

I've had Sprecher. Not bad. As a Vikings fan, last year was horrible but enjoyed the Giants win in Green Bay.
Actually, I was at Miller Park two years ago when the Twins were there. Great stadium. Loved the atmosphere.
Burn, Madison, Burn!

If they have good beer, why do they bother to make bad beer?

for the record - i don't think we are going to get buzz - just too expensive at the end of the day. But to think it is impossible is a little silly. MU is not Duke or NC or even UConn - they are way better then us - but i think the point of offering a bunch of cash will be to go get someone coaching somewhere waaaay better then SMU - so we can get better. Not all that tough to figure out.
and if he doesn't drink that means he isn't drunk - which means there is no explanation for him living in wisconsin . whoever we hire will be a HEAD coach at a program better then ours. For sure.

For perspective, we should all go back and re-read the great SMU Football Blog during our journey through the wilderness of the post-Bennett coaching search. Pay particular attention to the entries right around when the name "June Jones" surfaces.

Williams is a native of Van Alstyne (small town north of Denton), so he has some connection to the area. But he also has a $2 million dollar salary. And a program he has consistently reaching the Sweet 16. And an estimated $2.5 million buyout. Add in the fact that Marquette plays in the Big East (the conference SMU will be cellar dwelling in next year), and the move seems unlikely.
However, it does show that the school's boosters care about becoming a relevant basketball school. If nothing else, waving a lot of money at Williams should spark some hope and interest in the program.

You would think that some DFW blog would know where Van Alstyne is located. Probably some transplant trying to pretend he or she knows Texas. Anyway, Van Alstyne TX childhood home of Buzz Williams is only 45 miles north of SMU on Highway 75 (Central) a little north of McKinney. The greatness of Grayson County. I believe he has family still living there.
