In 2008 he was the head coach at Lake Travis High School, where his qb, Garrett Gilbert, broke a majority of the state passing records. Morris coached high school in Texas for a long time, so he knows the recruiting landscape pretty well. Just food for thought.
I think my interest ended at the point where you said he was GG's hs coach. We have seen gg and 'it ain't purdy' as they would say.
Still prefer Dykes or the guy from WKU.

Kirby Smart is the man - he's a known recruiter, a known winner, young, dynamic, kids love him, master motivator, understands the importance of tradition (would even wear red and blue), and has been learning from the master, Coach Saban. Only problem - Kentucky and the Hogs will be sniffin' and snortin' around him soon. Hart would have to court hard and use his Bama connections to get him.

He could be a great asset here as hc.

I love the idea of Kirby Smart, but I know the CofC wont shell out the money he will require because he doesn't have head coaching experience...

I don't know if they would shell out the money or not. However, IMO he would be a much better fit than some of the 'retread' coaches that are/ or may be available at the end of the season. IDK does Saban have any other assts that have moved up and been successful?

looking at the profile of our two head coaches now, and how no assistants were ever really in the running during the basketball hiring, I just think CofC is too old school to take that kind of risk. The next coach will interview with the CofC members, and will need to impress these seasoned veterans of the business world. I'm just not sure I see them taking a gamble on an "unproven" assistant.

Tide pony- thanks for the info. never thought to google it- duh!
When I lived in Sugarland one of my neighbors had played for Bear at Bama. He had a lot of stories to tell but obviously didn't attend too many classes..

Most of those guys were "unproven" at some point in their lives. They also had to take risks to get where they are. So, I think you may be surprised
Perhaps the high profile assistants don't want to come here. Maybe only the guys from 2nd tier schools will take the leap.

Kirby or Dykes. Just get us someone that isn't already in retirement.
