They still have to deal with ACC exit fee. USA Today is reporting Rutgers could announce their move as early as Tuesday.

That ACC exit fee is worth a couple more sports to that school...despicable. They won't cover their deficit in the B10 either.

Has just been announced that Rutgers is leaving BE for B1G. Watch the dominoes fall now. Not good for us.

I really hope they take UConn, because Louisy is the golden nugget along with Cincy. Those are the two towers of the Big East. Without them, we will fall. Now, I assume this wont change the nBE members coming, but I think if Louisy leaves then MW will be getting two members back. For us, theres no benefit going back to the Cupcakes. We would be better off in the ex-BE.

UL is much more important than Cincy...they are honestly the key to the BE surviving now. Without them the basketball schools will split off and we will be left with a conference that is really no better than the MWC at this point (but clearly still better than CUSA).

I still think we'll be ok in the end. Maybe I'm a fool, but what can I do at this point anyway...out of my hands (and all of yours as well).

A gross overreaction.

The basketball schools will not leave the Big East. They make more money by having exposure through football. Additionally, they would be reducing the number of markets they now claim, reducing their value even further. The Atlantic-10 is the highest paid basketball-only conference, and they do not even approach the current payout received by Big East basketball schools.

The basketball schools will remain and the Big East will carry on, with or without Louisville.

The best case REALISTIC outcome of all of this is for the leftovers of the Big East, best of CUSA, and best of MWC to form a new conference. You could have the following teams:

Eastern Division

Temple, East Carolina, Central Florida, South Florida, So Miss, La Tech, Memphis

Western Division

SMU, Houston, Tulsa, AFA, BYU, Boise State, San Diego State

I think whenever the true aftermath is over we will finally get to see what tv revenues are. I think if its anywhere in the 8 mil a team, do it. Just do it. Heck at this point trying to squeeze an extra 10 mil is sooo not worth it because now every network (no matter how desperate) knows that the value can go down.

UConn begged the ACC to let them join a year ago and the ACC turned their noses up. The ACC is kind of in limbo right now, I think. It can't really improve its football brand with what's out there. Louisville is up and down as is Cincy. UConn is not good. Clemson, FSU, VT, NCSU and GT are eyeing the SEC and Big XII, I suspect. I suspect that the ACC is going to push real hard for ND to make it a full marriage instead of friends with benefits. Its going to be interesting to see what NBC, ESPN, Fox and CBS do in all of this. This is now network driven stuff. CBS controls the SEC, so will it try to lure away ABC teams like FSU, GT and Clemson to SEC to screw over ESPN which holds the ACC rights? How will the ACC lure ND out of its separate deal with NBC? Right now, the leftover BE teams, MWC teams, CUSA teams, and SBC teams are the pawns in all of this. I think if ND stiff arms the ACC, Clemson and FSU are gone. If that happens, its a jail-break in the ACC. If say, the big four from the ACC leave. That leaves 9 teams in the ACC after next year. If they want to get back to 12, they have to add 3. What's left. Cincy, UL, UConn, USF, UCF, Temple in their footrprint. What a mess. More kittens die when we start these threads.

First off I could careless about kittens.

Second that the interesting part about the tv network battle. I have to say NBC must have a moron running its ship, not a surprise based on their channels they own. I think fox is removed since they are partnered in everywhere basically at least big 12 and PAC. Which funny thing is the PAC is unusually stable, must be a great conference to be in since they aren't jumping for money. Yes if the big 12 is into this battlefield we are screwed. Even if the ACC disbands it really does nothing for us. Even if we try to make a 16 team nACC it really doesn't do much in terms of rankings. It's gloomy black cloud over us right now. We need to find that coach that surprises everyone like LB did.

A coach isn't going to make any difference. That's just rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

Let the dust settle and see where our little dingy ends up. Odds are we will be in some coast-to-coast grab bag of BE leftovers/CUSA/MWC.

issue with the ACC is too many teams in too tight a geogrpahic area. there are 4 teams splitting up a pretty small market (NC) - and that is unsustainable from a TV standpoint. Hope the SMU/houston combo is talking about this with someone - we could actually be an ACC back fill that helps out their TV prospects (by adding markets - not necessarily eyeballs today).

I understand SMT, I just figure if there is anything SMU can do, its to get a new coach that can take us to where we need to be. ACC I feel is just on the verge of death. I would say join if FSU and clemson stayed in, but we would need the space lol.

Since networks are calling all the shots why don't they just sell rights to these conferences and call them

The ESPN Conference
The NBC Conference
The ABC Conference
The CBS Conference
The Fox Conference

and the dreaded third tier:

ESPN 2 Conference
ESPN 3 Conference
ESPNU Conference
CBS College Sports Conference
Fox Regional Conference
FX Conference

then we'd know where to find our game
