Hard to know where to begin with this nonsense...1st of all, no, nevermind...if you are too lazy to inform yourself of the institutional memory of this place you don't get to be in this conversation and taken seriously

In my opinion, its sad that we are bickering about a website. I figure if you dont like a website, say what you want to say and just leave. I have had my threads and comments deleted, and I thought I was treated with respect when I asked why. I am grateful for the respect that PonyPride in particular has shown me. I also believe that we dont have to pick sides. Its big big internet out there, so if you meander your way over to the "other" site, all the power to you.

Now to ask my one question to the admins (PonyPride, etc) (which doesnt have to be answered): Do you think June Jones and his crew should be replaced?

Good post.

Remember, this is a business - a poor paying one, but a business nonetheless. If you attack other readers and drive them away, that's less beer for me. And that makes us grumpy.
And a business we all appreciate - its your board, so you get to set the rules - and they are pretty fair rules - keep up the good work

I'll obviously let the other guys chime in on this... But as Webmaster, I try not to editorialize. I post press releases, make announcements, but don't try to influence anyone with my personal opinions.

I was actually kicking around the idea of writing a piece entitled "The Case For June Jones". Not necessarily because that's my belief, but because there is so much negativity and I thought it would make good conversation to present a "June stays" point of view. While PonyFans have cause to be irked, in reality, we have it pretty good on The Hilltop these days.

I guess if you're going to force an opinion out of me, I'd fall on the side of "best player starts". In other words, if we have a better option we should no longer be bound by loyalty (or contract) and should upgrade. While June has, and always has had, negative aspects, he's a damn good coach who has pulled this program out of the sewer after 25 years. Being close to the program, perhaps I've had more opportunities to peek behind the curtain than most of you have. This is no creampuff job. Coaches will not be lining up to replace June.

So I have to ask myself, can we truly upgrade to a better HC? What coach in his right mind would come to a school where they fired a HC that went to 4 straight bowls, especially considering all the baggage that comes with the job. So unless Turner and Hart have somebody in their pocket, it's not happening this year. And as Pride pointed out, Prime Time Sr. doesn't send Jr. here unless he's pretty sure his old coach June will be here for awhile.

I'll try to sit down tonight (when I'm not typing on an iPhone) and put some more thought into this.

Well it sounds like Webmaster is definitely a hard core June supporter. Seems like the same talking points the June supporters have been using all year. Battered wife syndrome for sure. I don't see June's contract being extended. If anything the defense has helped get us to bowl games not June's offense. Next year will really tell.

I am just curious where you were all these years that we were losing all the games we were losing (not singling you out, I mean all the posters that want June Jones fired). I vividly remember Stallion ranting about changing the model. Now that the model has changed Stallion has discretely said that we should be doing better, but doesn't go on like a broken record about firing June Jones. We all expect better, but you don't fire the guy that has gotten you the best results in the last 20+ years. We missed the boat on the current realignment by not acting much earlier. TCU got it right, but now is not the time to panic and waste our resources. I think we need an IPF much more than we need a new coach. Put the $4 million you would use on the buyout towards the IPF. Again, we're not where we want to be, but we are much better than where we have been.

BTW, I am not a June to the death supporter, I am just very patient. I agreed with giving PB a 6th season. He did have to go after the 1 win season though.

I guess since the Webmaster is neutral then he will also give a write up about "June goes" to present both sides. Since he said he is not taking either side.

I think Webamaster makes some very good points. In particular, the one about coaches not lining up to replace June Jones. That is a factor that I think a lot of folks on this board do not have a realistic perspective on. I'm not commenting on whether June should stay or go on the merits. I think we've had plenty of discussion about that. But I am definitely concerned that it might be much harder than some people on this board think to substantially upgrade coaches if we run June off. I was speaking to someone recently who is very, very knowledgeable about both college and pro football (meaning he is in the football business and has a lot of inside knowledge). When we started talking about June, he said, "June's done a good job. Its just that SMU is a tough place." That resonated with me. SMU IS a tough place. Its gotten much, much better. But, as Webmaster points out, this is no creampuff job. June has accomplished at SMU what no other coach since the DP even came close to accomplishing. If SMU were to run off the guy who took us to 4 straight bowls for the first time, what kind of message does that send to all the top-tier coaches some of you think we'd be in the running for?

No one is saying that June should be fired this year. However, his wins are declining and his offense has not clicked as it should have since he has been here. And it seems like he would rather be someplace other than SMU. As I have said that next year will tell a lot.

If that is the case then there are no June to the death supporters. I don't think anyone has said he deserves an extension or a raise. If he stays good. If he leaves good, the AD goes out and finds someone better.
