I think most of us believe that if there were beer in the stadium then they'd go inside to drink and watch the game, rather than sitting in their lawn chairs on watching the game on TV on the BLVD. We can get a good number to show up for gameday, just not in the actual stadium itself. The BLVD is a great gameday atmosphere, so why not bring some of that same atmosphere into the stadium?
Ding ding ding ding ding
I'm guessing UTEP doesn't have a huge chunk of their fan base getting drunk outside the Sun Bowl instead of actually attending the game.

I asked him about that, too (citing those who just stay on the Boulevard instead of going to the game), and he made it sound like it's worse there - much worse. He talked about the number of police needed out there to "handle" pre-game drinkers, etc., and said a lot of them show up with no intention of watching their games.

For the last time could we please rid ourselves of the myth that there are people staying on the boulevard during games. The number of people doing that numbers in the dozens, maybe 100.

Right they are all streaming off the Boulevard to go home instead. Drive up late to a game. There are multiple thousands depending on the game who never make it to the Stadium.

It would still help if we had a better product on the field.........

I'm just saying that most of our young grads nowadays end up leaving SMU as full blown alcoholics. I do what I can to convince my friends to stay, but they always want to go to the Boulevard and then hit up the bars after. I'd have an easier time convincing them if there was beer.

Haha, don't think that's helping our pro-alcohol campaign...

Is there a campus chapter of The Salvation Army ? Or at least a "Blood and Fire " or "Harbor Light" tent on the B'vad during the season.

I honestly doubt selling beer at Ford would make a significant difference in attendance, but personally I would enjoy a few more beers during the game. It also would make SMU a lot more money so I don't see why it is that big of a deal.
Plus, if you get to see a hot girl throw up then it just makes things even better.

Forgive my ignorance, but does the NCAA have any say on alcohol sales at on campus stadiums? I haven't been to many other school's stadiums or arenas but I've never been to one that sells alcohol. I'm not sure why schools wouldn't if was allowed.

Not an NCAA rule. UH sells beer in the stadium. So does Rice.

I present no scientific opinion, but I'm a younger guy and my girlfriend of four years (yeah, yeah, I know I need to "lock that up"), also youthful, is from El Paso. We go to UTEP games (football and basketball) whenever we're in town. I've probably been to two or three dozen games.
I don't notice a difference in the atmosphere -- than say, TCU or SMU -- when it comes to indecent behavior. Fans actually seem much more engaged (I wonder why?).
I'm also a club seat holder at TCU. Same thing. Drink prices are stiff at both places and security is ever present, though instead of arriving late or leaving at halftime to enjoy a drink, we're in the stadium.
If people drink, they're going to find a way to drink. No excuse, just reality.

Tulane sells hurricanes. Pretty sure there's no NCAA rule.
