average cost for family of 4 to attend a Dallas Cowboys game in Arlington is over $600. You can almost buy a season ticket to SMU FB for the cost of parking your car to 1 Cowboy game.
Don't disagree with you but I would question if a person who can afford spending $600 for a cowboys game is a prospective pony fan.
One of my granddaughters is an avid Mavs fan. I have been talking SMU bball to them and have even offered to buy their tickets. So far not much of a positive response. I wonder if the same holds true for cowgirl fans.

Wouldn't be surprised if the coaching salary budget for the next coach is less than we're paying now..,;:

that will really show how serious the admin and CofC are about being top level and moving up or staying with less than mediocre and moving down.
BTW- does anybody have an idea what some of the assts. are paid? i.e. Mason and Mumme.

I would almost bet on it. For some reason I think that we will promote from within and that will assuredly mean a drastic pay cut for the head coach.

I sure hope not.

there is no coach that we currently have that should be promoted to HC. If that happens it will be fatal to the program. Not one is qualified to take this to the next level- especially phillips.
If we don't want a first class, top level coach or a HIGHLY promising assistant then just drop down a level and forget all this crap of trying to be a BCS level school.

People that want a current staff member to e promoted must be high. June is a 100x better option than anyone on this staff. Not even a question.

True, no one spending that much for Cowboys tickets considers SMU football a potential substitute. They're paying that much for the brand, the stadium, the level of football and other things that make Cowboys football much more attractive than SMU football.

We have a brand too...if we'd just aggressively market it. But perhaps we should wait for things to materialize on the field.

We tried some aggressive marketing with the "SMU is Dallas' Team" campaign but it doesn't seem to have much of an impact as attendance is still lousy and we're still an afterthought in the regional sports scene. We don't need to wait until we start winning 10 games to market, we could put something together for next summer provided we bring in a legit coaching staff and significantly revamp our recruiting class. It would help if the new guy got out there an helped sell his vision for SMU football to the city.

I agree with your "you don't have to wait until we win 10 games" assertion. I just mean that no non-SMU fans walks into Ford and thinks "this is a good team playing exciting football". Until we have that, why market?

True, no non-SMU fan comes away from our games thinking that but as I stated in my previous post if we get our house in order this offseason (much like SMU basketball did) then that would provide us with better marketing/outreach opportunities even in the absence of 10 win teams.

So what did the "June Cometh" marketing do for butts in the seats?
