Yes, i should have cloaked the ex NFL a bit more clandestinely. My bad for using something too specific to illustrate a point.

Too much time wasted on this for sure. Must be the off season. Only Dale Hansen in the subject line caught my attention originally.

My point is that your sexuality is a choice- gay, straight, bi, whatever. I choose to date women, some men choose to date other men. Yeah, you have preconceived tendencies about what you're attracted to, but it's ultimately a choice of who you decide to have relations with. There are celibate people in the world today who are attracted to others but have decided to abstain from sex- that is their choice.

Research has been done to show that some people are predisposed to pedophilia- I certainly hope they make the CHOICE to not act on their predispositions. And no I am not equating homosexuality to pedophilia in any way- having sex with another consenting adult and having sex with a child are two completely different things. My point is that people are born with tendencies of what they're attracted to, but their sexuality is determined by their choice of whether to act on them or not.

Do you see having sex with men as something you could do and enjoy doing, but you simply choose to date women instead? I don't know many straight men who view their attraction to women, and lack of attraction to other men, as a "tendency" that is describable in terms of choice. Same for gay men.

Do you then believe it is the right thing for gay men to all be celibate, given that gay secks is a practice with which you disagree?

I wouldn't want my daughter to work in a strip club, but I don't think they should be illegal, either. I'm not sure what point you're trying to make. I don't think morality should be legislated by the government when a certain practice isn't inherently dangerous and doesn't interfere with anyone else's life- see strip clubs, pot, porn (18+), gambling, etc.

We all know people who are gay. While I may not endorse or agree with their lifestyle, if a gay man wants to play in the NFL, its his choice. Jerry Smith caught a ton of TD passes from Sonny Jurgensen and was gay. As long as the person can play and isn't using his lifestyle to make him uncuttable, I have no problems if he is out of the closet.

Well I think we've found it, because I'm an Xbox guy. Obviously I'm behind the times.

Did you choose to be attracted to women? I don't remember making that choice; it's just the way I've always felt.

That is apples to oranges. The question to ask a straight man would be "Do you see having sex with women as somehting you could do and enjoy doing but simply choose not to instead." I think most people nowadays see homosexuality as a genetic traight. However, sexual relations for homosexuals and heterosexuals alike is a choice. The funny thing is that most of the people that argue against homosexuality and abortion using religion as the excuse for opposing it are not virgins themselves and were not virgins when they got married either.

I think someone said it best earlier in this thread- anything that isn't an involuntary muscle reaction is a choice

Yes, but did you CHOOSE to be beaten down? Apparently that is the question at hand now.

XC, I don't disagree with what you've written. I was (and am ) trying to grasp ECM's view that orientation is irrelevant, everything about sexuality is just choices and at most tendencies, and gay sex is something he disagrees with. I don't agree with any of that but was interested in understanding.

Not that ECM has said this, but the ones who really fascinate me are those who urge gay men to try to be straight and to marry women. It never seems to occur to them why they really should not want such men in a dating pool with their daughters!
