I am starting to get sick of people slamming MKs intellectual capacity. Reading level is more of an indication of past education. Lets just support MK and hope for the best.

Sure SMU is keeping mk from making money, jut like we did with Mudiay and the other pg last year, oh we're not. If he reads at a 7th grade level he doesn't belong in college. When we move to a pro college system then fine they can play for college teams.

Another bad analogy on Mudiay and Markus. Mudiay did not miss any games but went straight into the pros. Markus is going to miss games which could affect his stock. Markus could have gone pro last year and at least played overseas but decided to come back to SMU. Interesting how people are turning on this young man. Kind of like a horse that has run well and now is not but those same people that were cheering for him are ready to send him to the glue factory.

Him being able to leave is my entire point. He was eligible last season and played. If the work was too much he could have left. No one forced him to come back

Not to pick an Internet fight, but nacho, you don't know me. Yes, I knew Jeff, since day one at McGinnis. David Stanley too. T Mann too. Jerry Ball. So, yeah...

Jeff was a pretty good guy, he just couldn't shake some of his past. All I know is what I saw and heard. Not proud to see him get caught up. It was sad. Ruined his head.

He might have been asked to come back by the coaches and trusted the coaches. These kids trust the coaches. They may have told him if he came back that he could improve his draft stock and he trusted them.

There's a long 3 page intensive story on Jeff Atkins published in the FWST about a decade ago lost somewhere on the internet -I know the Jeff Atkins story at least up that date

I think Jeff had a drinking problem and that is why he left the team originally. I think he was trying to help some help. I had a class with him and he was a good guy.

Great post.

Agreed, but I don't think it is usually something that is quickly fixed in only a couple of years. Not enough to get past upper level college history classes anyway. I wish him the best.

I agree. However this experience in the History program should at least help this (regardless of other harmful effects).

I have talked to him twice (once when he was pissed with what may have been this issue) and I never got the impression he was not smart. I just want us to cut the young man some slack.

Med School and History are both academic pursuits. It isn't a stretch to say someone capable of getting into medschool could pass history classes. Meanwhile, pretty much everyone who shows up to Wellness and half tries at all passes it. Athlete:history::scholar:wellness.

Now if the future med student isn't capable of passing history for some reason, say language barrier, and gets a pass......that happens all the time with the Indian and Chinese in the engineering school. Also happens with the affluent arabs who blatantly cheat. I had a prof outright tell me he doesn't stop it because they pay full tuition and go back to Arabia.

I had to take an exam late once. A group of them was caught cheating 4 times in the same exam and nothing happened. I could not believe it.

I think Nacho is referring to Jeff's problems with Manic Depression, which played a large role in his drug problem.
