The cheating, raping Baylor Bears, are 0 and 7, and they still have strong fan support.

There is no excuse for SMU or any P6 school in the country not to have at the very minimum 25,000 fans there with our best start 6-2, battling for a Division Tittle against the No. 15 team in the Country on Homecoming. This is a test to prove SMU fans actually give a damn about the football program.
A lot of points to agree with in this post.
Since most of this thread is rehashing common beefs, I will add the following.
It just might help our cause to not get mercy-ruled on our big HoCo stage, as well as to hold Navy and Memphis to fewer than 125 points combined.

For college football fans, they have sports bars showing plenty of very entertaining games on TV...or you can gather with friends at someone's house where the drinks and food are cheaper and the non interested can just mingle. I really get tired of the "but there's nothing else to do there" argument. People are either motivated to support their school and alma mater or they are not and the majority of SMU students and alumni are not, especially by comparison with those schools that enjoy P5 status, whether they were grandfathered in or earned their way there. No SMU alum needs to look any farther than TCU/Ft Worth to realize what can be done if enough people care enough to make it happen.

They also had Art Bryles from 2008 to 2015. During that time they won two B12 championships and had a Heisman. Are you really comparing us to Baylor Football?
At least Bryles chose to stay after RG3. If Chad Morris stays that long, we will have success as well. As of right now, Chad is just another football mercenary. TCU and Baylor had stability, and had coaches that wanted to build. I'm not saying that Chad is horrible for wanting to go up a level. I wish SMU football produced more football coaches. We will likely need an alum or someone with SMU roots that wants to build the program up, and doesn't see it as a stepping stone

I agree with CP's premise, so tired of the 'nothing else to do' excuse. But I think the reality is the identifying aspect. TCU football = Ft. Worth pride, Baylor football = Waco pride. Pro Sports = Dallas. It would take a perennial winner to get Dallas to identify with SMU. Like SMU basketball. It is also true our alums/students are less motivated for reasons I can't explain. Ancillary problems: Pye, D.P. etc. We sorta made it happen during Mustang Mania days with that A.D., whose name escapes me.

June Jones has done more for SMU football than Chad Morris at the moment. Until Chad Morris has been here for 5 years and taken SMU to 4+ bowl games, this is a moot point.
Pride comes with winning. What perennial losing private school, or even public school, do you know that fills up there football stadium or basketball arena?

Your pride comes from SMU winning. Chad Morris may have a different definition of pride than SMU fans because he can command about 3.5 Million in the marketplace if he gets to 7 wins this year. No SMU Coach since the Death Penalty meets your definition of pride and if Chad Morris leaves you maybe waiting another 30 years for this alleged great moment of pride. You guys really don't see what's coming do you?

Lol. Wait another 30 years. Please.
In the past eight years we'll have gone to five bowl games and improved our conference affiliation twice. Chad Morris is a heck of a coach but we are the highest paying G5 program in the nation. There won't be a shortage of coaches who want $2.5M/year to coach at SMU. If he leaves (which I doubt he does this year) then go hire another Chad Morris. The job isn't perceived as a coach killer anymore.

Sorry to say, but people want to be associated with winning in a big city. There is a reason that most popular college teams are in the middle of nowhere or have 45,000+ students. And I like the trajectory that Chad is having, but he had an easy out of conference schedule to build up his record. I'm not a June apologist, but what June did is more impressive at the moment. I hope Chad stays and continues to build the program but if SMU has the right foundation (top G-5 coach salary, competitive facilities, good academics, easy sports major, great city, support from administration, and alumni donations), we will get another good coach that will build on what Chad has done. Continue to go after younger coordinators with Texas ties that run Texas high school offenses or defenses and that can recruit the State of Texas.
I think most people's school pride comes due to the academic side--at least that was what it was like in the east coast. I didn't chose a college because of sports. We live in a different era, where football is competing with lots of entertainment options, especially social media.

Chad should be commended for getting us to this point, but honestly if we don't convert a miracle 4th and 26 we are sitting at 5-3 with four tough games to close out the season. This season was tailor made for a third year coach to get to a bowl game. To this point Chad is right on schedule but we are not exceeding anyone's expectations for this team. Now if we go out and win one of these next three games its time to say this program under Chad has turned a major corner.
