He was lucky to beat Tulane and Cincy last year. Otherwise, he'd still be stuck here and probably be 0-3 to start the 2018 SMU season. Ouch.

What's going on Mrydel, you have supplanted Stallion, as the Chad defender...you seem very sensitive to criticism to Chad.

I am not sensitive to Chad, I am in awe with the hypocrisy of you bashers. You loved it when he came, he improved the program each year, he was not given what he was promised, we all knew he was using us as a steppingstone, and he left. If he had stayed you would be one of his biggest backers. Why can’t we just support Sonny, who I believe is a much better fit for us, and let Chad do his thing without us as we always knew he would. So much wasted time on misdirected hate on the first coach since Ron Meyer who was hired away from us. I do not recall Meyer being belittled like this.

I think Chad will turn it around. The team Bret left him is not very good. He has got to have time to get it done and if these ridiculous Arkansas ΓÇ£fansΓÇ¥ will leave him alone, he will get it done.

I was thrilled when Chad came because he was a hot commodity, and much talked about. But the only thing that I was waiting to see was whether he was committed to SMU. One of his first games he and his wife were on the video board addressing the fans and I turned to my son and said ΓÇ£he has no interest being hereΓÇ¥. From that point I was only interested in how he recruited so the next guy could have some success. Chad proved to me early on that he takes insincerity to New Years 6 Bowl Game level.
The whole ΓÇ£stepping stoneΓÇ¥ excuse doesn’t wash for me. He had no interest in proving himself at SMU. He tried to leave us in Year One when we only won two games! As has been said, most of the non delusional Ponyfans knew he was not Patterson but to say that we were ok with the prospect of his staying 3 years I think is wrong. And in those three years he came nowhere close to where June had us. Hopefully the cupboard is not as bare but to pretend his tenure at SMU was anything but a bust is questionable.

How does not buying the steppingstone theory apply when what you described is exactly using us as a steppingstone?

Agreed and that is why I have said I think Chad has done a masterful job of managing his career. Would not have looked good to follow that 7-5 season with a 4-8 finish, which is what I thought this year's team would do given the much more difficult schedule. It remains to be seen whether Chad can rescue an Arkansas program that has become as bad as any SEC program. I know several on this board believe the Peter Principle will finally catch up to Chad at Arkansas because this will be by far the biggest challenge he has faced, but I would not bet against him. I'm thankful for what he did for SMU and I'm as optimistic about our football future as I've been since JJ was hired. I think Sonny inherited a program with a decent foundation/roster and just hope this team can find some success in AAC play and build on what is currently in place rather than having to tear it down and start over again for the umteenth time since the death penalty.

I am enjoying watching Morris struggle, and it boils down to two words: Jeff Traylor.
Traylor agreed to be the interim coach for the bowl last year then when he did not get the job he quit and went straight to Arkansas. Whether Morris told him to do that or just was ok with Traylor quitting on the team, I hold it against both of them.

From one of the Hog Boards....
like Thunderhawg's phrasing on this subject:
quote:
If Chad Morris ever wins more than 9 games here I will surgically alter myself and [deleted] own [deleted] and post pics on the rant. It ain't fricking happening, he ain't in over his head, hes fricking drowning and has drug the lifeguard down with him. frick this meth smoking conman I hope he OD's on Redbull on the fricking sideline. And frick Jerry Jones for sticking us with this [deleted] too.

Not mad that he left us. Mad he did nothing to succeed here (Malone for one thing) and don't care to see him succeed elsewhere.

I don't understand all of the Chad hate. After June, his carnival sideshow was fun. It was fun to be a Mustang fan again for a little while. He managed to get us from the burning embers of the end of June to a decent and incredibly lucky but fun to watch 7-5. We all knew that he would bolt with any success and he was a cheesy used car salesman but who really thought he was long-term? I'm not so sure what a great recruiter he is/was for us, but we're better than we were.
Yes, when he left he did so in a classless fashion, but class was never his strong suit. That he ran to the Hogs and that they are choking it as badly as we are is fun to watch, because I hate the Hogs and he did leave us is such a cheesy way. Still, there's no reason to be nasty or bitter. He was a fun dalliance that we all knew wasn't going to end well. And now he's giving Arkansas the same song and dance, and they are sucking just as we did in his first year there. Also, I think he's taken the sting out of the North Texas loss a little bit, because while it was fun to watch the Hogs crash and burn, it also shows that the Green are a good football team with some talent.
I know we want to win NOW, and maybe I'm wrong but I'm actually feeling good about the Ponies. We were always going to take (at least) a step back this season on offense. Now there is a new offense to learn and that always takes time- I sort of expected that to be a mess, and I always felt having two fantastic receivers disguised some of the offenses' other shortcomings. I have felt for TCU and yesterday that we actually have a real defensive coordinator, and that given some better talent (and assuming we hold on to him) that we might have a decent defense soon. I also suspect that once they move some personal around, that the offense will click, and from what I'm seeing we're recruiting better. This is going to be an ugly first half of the season because we have a new staff/team learning curve and a very ugly schedule which is hurting perception, but I do think we may have upgraded the coaching staff. We were always going to lose TCU and UM- they've got much better athletes than we do, and I know they both eventually beat us by hanging forty on us but I never felt that either game really got out of hand as with some games in the past. We basically stood more or less toe to toe until the half with both programs and I didn't come away embarrassed from either defeat as I had in some past games. If losses can be a positive (and I don't like moral victories), I actually think that Sonny will actually build a decent foundation here, and maybe fairly quickly.

......"he takes insincerity to New Years 6 Bowl Game level." Everything else aside, THIS is the reason it's easy to pile on Morris.
Unfortunately for him, there are many, many more eyes on him at Arkansas, and he is going to called out for it with much less patience. He has gotten away with it to this point in his career, but..........
