It would be nice to announce a splashy new hire sometime before the tournament is over but we rarely time things to make a big impact nationally.

Not surprising as his move will soon become a lateral move(with UNT joining the AAC) so SMU would have a set a new standard for bball coaches pay in The American

I hope that they make a run at Bryce Drew (Grand Canyon). I wish they would have nabbed him in 2020.
Year 1 at GCU
17-7 (conf champion and NCAA appearance
Year 2 at GCU
23-8
It appears that every one of his recruits at GCU is in Texas (wonder how much help he gets from his Bro).
He got a raw deal at Vandy. Was handed nothing to work with at all and it showed in SEC play.

I am starting to wonder if Gonzaga might be ready to move on from Mark Few.
He would be a great fit here.

Really, CP????
You’re not being very true to your Alma Mater
Dallas vs Denton???
NTSU is ranked #277 per US News
SMU has an endowment over $2B
Avg home prices in Denton are $355k
Avg home prices in University Park are $2.2M
McCasland’s making some $600k at denton vocational school
Our facilities, campus and reputation are far superior.
SMU would be a huge upgrade. Something else appears to be at play here.

let's hope not!!! we need a big hire not a 'nothing hire. If we can't get decent coaches with all of our assets then shut it down.

Don't get your panties in a wad. I was referring to the FACT that SMU and UNT are likely going to be conference mates in the not too distant future and I suspect McCasland, with continued success in Denton, might be aspiring for a return to Baylor or maybe one of the P5 blue blood programs. So...until SMU can become the "Duke of Dallas" as Matt Doherty had visualized, SMU is not nearly as attractive a destination as too many alumni want to believe it is. Long live the 1500!

Would certainly be the most economical option and a risky move with guys in jobs in which they are completely unproven at this level, but if those guys could convince several of Dallas' top recruits to stay home and play at SMU it would likely bring a lot of media attention. I seem to recall that was the hope when Tubbs was hired but it didn't quite work out that way. Not sure who SMU could hire that could help keep top area talent to stay home because we call know it's great players that make coaches great.

Based on Billy's article, Lanier has an impressive coaching resume, including being a strong recruiter on Barnes' staff at both Texas and Tennessee. Appears to be a solid hire. Let's go!!

The spin machine is at full force. This is a disaster. SMU tickets should be $5-10 each at most.

Care to elaborate on this doomsday attitude? I admit I don't know much about him, but based on what I've read so far, I'm not sure how this is a disaster?

Yeah, I like Lanier. He’d be a solid hire.
