Cameron Indoor and Moody
Watched the Duke game last night. Man, Cameron Indoor is (structure wise) a spitting image of Moody. What's so interesting is what they did to update it.
Obviously, there is a new jumbotron and upgraded seats. What I found interesting was the wood and brass poles used to cover the area between the lower level and upper section above the students. Directly above the students they used a nice looking wood to cover the cement. They also used brass looking poles in place of the steel ones that prevent people from falling over. They also painted the duct work and ceiling a light tan color, which looked a lot cleaner and more modern than our dirty sky blue (lighter colors would also make the ceiling appear higher and brighter). They also have grey colored (plastic and cloth) self folding seats around the entire arena.
Those are small details that really add a different atmosphere to the arena. Other than the fact that the place was sold out.
How much money would we need to do this?
New seats.
New detail materials.
Ceiling paint.
It can't be multi-millions? Can it?

I agree. I remember thinking something similar while watching a Duke game on tv. I'm sure some of the Dukies on the board could give a better idea of how similar the two places are (other than the obvious lack of several thousand fans). It seems like most of the needed renovations are aesthetic. I'm looking forward to Sunday to see some of the renderings of the improvements.
I'll be at Cameron Indoor Saturday night to see the Dukies vs. Georgetown. I agree the insides of the arenas look the same on TV. However, I'm guessing parking will be somewhat more difficult for a Duke game. Given the similarities in architecture, and Coach D's "Duke of Dallas" declaration, I'm debating as to whether I should not engage my usual "don'tcomparetosmudon'tcomparetosmudon'tcomparetosmu" mantra that I usally take on when in other atmospheres to which it would be difficult for SMU to aspire.

I agree! It won't take Coach Doherty long to get Moody packed and rocking again. I've been there when it is packed and there is not a better atmosphere to watch College Basketball.

I am sick of hearing the "Duke" of Dallas.
Cameron is not that updated really. The scoreboard is OLD (someone said new jumbotron). It now has AC, but you would not have known it at the Indiana game.
The biggest difference I see is the relatively inexpensive side-line display boards that give a much cleaner look, that and TRULY the best college atmosphere.
