Eastman & Beaudine hired by Baylor, too

I read where E&B has been hired by Baylor to assist it in its search for a new HC. Isn't that a conflict of interest to some degree? Some of the same names are being mentioned for both jobs (Nutt, Mason, Paul Johnson, Bowden).

You read it here.

No, I actually read it on another site, which used the DMN as a source.
Do you think it is a conflict of interest? How does E&B make a pitch about SMU over Baylor (and vice versa) to the same candidate? How does E&B make a recommendation to SMU on a candidate and at the same time recommend someone to Baylor?

I would think it's a conflict of interest. Hopefully they have different groups working on different jobs (small faction working on Baylor, another one working on SMU).

I bet both schools do have a 'small' fraction working on their respective jobs.

I don't think it is necessarily a conflict of interest. Yes, SMU and Baylor are both private schools in the same state. However, the search firm is merely a facilitator in the process. They are simply messengers passing along whatever information our respective institutions want disclosed. It will be public perception which intrigues them enough to interview and from there it is up to our respective AD's to make the best sales pitch possible. I am not concerned. Additionally, some of the same names will come up for both jobs, but the same people might not be interested in the job. I would not want to have to live in Waco with Baptists criticizing me for going to a bar. I'm sure some coaches would appreciate the peace and calm of living in Waco along with the "great family values of small-town people".

Hope it helps us that Bob Beaudine is a 1977 graduate of SMU. I also know Bob and he will do a good job for both schools. I just hope that he does a little better for us.

Yeah I think the key is that it is a SEARCH firm not a HIRING firm.

From what I've read about the search firm, it's pretty much a one-man show. Bob Beaudine.
I wonder if he does actually recommend specific coaches for each job, or just does the background work requested by the schools? There seems to be some disagreement as to what he actually does in the process. Can someone clarify?
