so, an entire press conference just to announce coach K is staying? does not make much sense to me if it were all just a blogger and message board-created rumor. i think there was something to this, and maybe the leak caused the deal to get shot down (for such reasons as bad press for coach K, etc.)

by no means was he my 1st choice, but if he was orsini's man and now we are completely starting over, what now??

Well lets see....you interview a few, then you pick your favorite and hold the others off for awhile and then you seal the deal and announce....just like we were going to do from the beginning. Jeeez you people ever interviewed for a job before?

I don't think he was Orsini's man. He certainly would not be the best available coach IMO. What now? We sit back and watch until the coach is announced. With any luck, it will be less than a week away!

I don't think it is over NC. The press conference was weird. Can't remember when there was ever one done like this other than Saban saying he was not leaving Miami. What it tells me, we are not even in the ballpark for hiring a wow coach. The wow left SMU a long time ago.

it went on too long for there not to be something to it. They could have just issued a press release a couple of days ago and ended it.

i dont think a press release has the same effect as the coach coming out and saying "i'm staying here"

Did you mean to use present or past tense of one of the m****.

I believe his statement was, all reports of him having any contact with SMU whatsoever were "total fiction." So if in fact there was anything to this thing other than baseless rumor, I guess that would mean Kragthorpe's pants are on fire. Did I get his statement right?

So you think there was some discussion of some
sort and one party decided it was not going to work
and thus today's press conference?

Sure as hell hope not.
Nothing about that guy should excite any of us.

What it tells me, we are not even in the ballpark for hiring a wow coach. The wow left SMU a long time ago.
.................Well if we are not in the ball park for a wow coach, it is our own problem because a great coach like Gary Barnett said he was interested and apparently SMU ran him off. Now we are talking to Greg Davis ? Are they kidding ? A quality coach like Barnett is just interested in getting back into coaching and not interested in futher trouble. A perfect example is Orsini's O'Leary. Sounds like maybe we should start the search over and try to get the best coach we can....

I read that quote about an hour ago and it said reports of an interview are "total fiction"
