Butch Davis Staying Put

From the DMN Blog:
Butch Davis, the former Cowboys assistant back in the day, won't be going to Arkansas or Texas A&M or any other rumored destination.
North Carolina is set to give Davis a one-year contract extension and a nearly $300,00 raise. The Fayetteville (N.C.) Observer has a good on-the-fly report.
The expected openings at Arkansas, A&M, Nebraska and elsewhere may force other schools to sweeten deals with their coaches.
Thad / Dwan....does this change anything?

They've offered him one preliminarily. Still has to be approved by the board next week.

He's a pipe dream anyway. We need to be focusing on realistic options.

Some of these coaches are really good at getting themselves pay raises.

Agreed, but based on what those two were saying before, it sure seems like they were hinting he was the guy. I'm just wondering how off-base the BD guess is.

I don't think it was as off base as any other option that has been mentioned. SMU is finding out that it is harder to coral one of these type coaches than they originally thought. I hear that the $1.2-$1.4MM is now more realistically like $1.6-$1.8MM. Plus, it is lock for 6 years rather than 5. (I guess this is the death penalty premium)
I think if we had our guy right now, we would have already announced it.
I was looking to be thankful to SMU this week but, I just may have to wait a bit longer.

If you are correct, then Turner deserves an a$$-chewing from Ford, Sewell, and the other football guys, and frankly, the Board deserves the same a$$-chewing. It's THEIR responsibility, and if they hired Orsini to do a job, then they need to do like good bosses, give their guy the tools he needs, and get out of the way.
I appreciate the money they have raised; now friggin'
do their jobs and use it.

I agree with you...I think Turner is the one to blame. But, I think he is saying 'no', thus, eliminating candidates.

Why would we have already announced it? Why not wait until after the season? Give Bennett the last friggin' game, let him vote for All-Conference players and he's done. Once he's out of the way, hold a press conference.
